Default rx300 cel code P0768

Hi Guys,

Not so much good news for me. Just got a rx300 with 165k on the odometer. Car drives fine, but cel came on and it's showing code P0768 along with another code I forgot but its for evaporative system, the autozone guy said check my gas cap for that one. The one I'm concern about this the P0768 because I dig up some stuff and it seems like transmission issues. From What I gather it is a code for O/D gear or not able to shift into gear 4. Mine shifts into gear 4 no problem. at 65mph I"m at 2700-27500rpm or so. If I click on the O/D button to turn off then i get into the high 3k rpm, turn it on back down to 2700-2750rpm again. This makes me think that O/D gear(4th gear) is working. The fluid is red when I check on the tranny dipstick and it's fill up to correct levels. Also My D light on the screen is out as well I don't know if it's a short to the solenoid or is the solenoid going out or am i needing a new transmission soon? If it's solenoid can someone post pictures of how to replace them, I saw a thread on it, but it's not really clear.

Thanks for the input guys.

Andy

Hey, welcome to Club Lexus!

To start off, I suggest resetting the code, and seeing if it returns.

As far as I can tell from your post, there are no symptoms. It seems as though overdrive is working. Although at 65mph I think I'm closer to 2200 rpm but I don't remember for sure, maybe someone can confirm...

The "D" light not working, is just the light bulb in the dashboard. Nothing to worry about. I'm surprised that bulb even lasted this long. There is a DIY on this site for changing that bulb out if you want to.

Thanks for the welcome.

I did reset the cel. When I got it read the guy cleared the codes. Now it's back on again. I will have it reread in about a hour and see if it's still there. Can Someone else confirm that my rpm should be 2700-2750 at 65mph.

thanks,

Andy

Yeah I did see that thread. Not much was follow through as to whether or not he replace just the solenoid and did it fix it. SOMEONE please confirm your rpm at 65MPH. I just double check again it's it correct like 26-2750rpm. At 55MPH it's at 2100rpm. Do you guys think a tranny flush might help? Just a note mine does not hesitate at all to shift. It shifts very smooth and very good, so I don't know if the last owner just didn't change the fluid and it may cause contamination and the dealer got it and changed it hence the bright pink I don't know..... Please help this poor fellow.

Vehicle history I won this from an auction place, vehicle is in prestine condition ouside and inside. I assume at 165k and this prestine is/must be driving or in the care of elderly individual which would also lead me to believe that they never flush the tranny fluid or even have a dealer replace it until it got traded in. Inputs and thoughts are welcome guys.

Andy.

Again it is the same code P0768.
So questions is do you guys think a flush would help? I mean filling it through the intake line from the transmission cooler and let it drain from the ouput line. Does this clean the front differential as well?

for what it's worth: at 55mph, my tach says about 2200 rpm; at about 60 mph, it is about 2,400 rpm. i just took a 500 mile trip, and, on the freeway, at about 70 mph, i was under 3,000 rpm.
