Default Key fob screw missing

I lost the screw that holds the RX300 key fob shell together. Anybody know what size to get as a replacement screw, or a source? It has loosened several times over the years, but this time I didn't catch it in time.

Never mind. I found a guy in Texas on eBay selling them for $1/pair + $.50 shipping. Very reasonable, less than the price of gasoline to the dealer!

This problem seems would be solved. Next time or for little things dont be bashful and give your Lexus dealership (parts) a call. I have seen those guys work to help out the customers.

The screw on my key fob is really messed up, the head is all screwed up. I need to use a knife to open it, I should probably buy a new screw as well.

Do they fit? They look too long and the screw head is the wrong shape (at least in the picture he is using).

I would think that everybody is having keyfob issues like I did on my 2000 RX.

I found a guy on ebay that could replace your keyfob (without the electronic guts) for about $40 for a pair.

The amazing thing is that all I had to do was to take a picture with my cell phone of my old key and he was able to cut a new one from the pic. I have been using it for about a year like this. and no more floppy fob.

I don't have his name , but if anyone needs it I'm sure I can find it.

I got the aftermarket key fob off e-bay for $5.00 and $25 to get it cut at the dealer. But the screw came out in less than a week. Guess I should have used Loctite

Default Fob Screw Size

I measured my fob screw at 2mm dia. Therefore, I think it is M2x.4x5 flat head.

See this link for possible replacements:
http://www.fastener-express.com/M2x....sSteelQty.aspx

I haven't yet verified the screw other than measuring it and looking up standard metric thread pitch/diameter sizes. Diameter and length was measured with a caliper.

Plenty of places sell the genuine toyota part. Only problem is the shipping charges. But available if you search for it by part number:

Part No.: 89759-40020 SCREW, DOOR CONTROL

Thanks

Visit you local Lexus dealer parts.
9/10 they will pull a screw out of misc/canabalized and even screw in the part.

Salim
PS: Lexus parts from dealer can be pricy, but keep in mind, they don't charge you shipping. If you don't like the price, you can always say no thank you.

For the people in this thread that needed to replace the shell, I bought this one almost 3 years ago, still solid.
You just remove the T-shaped metal key and module from the old shell and install them in the new one.
