Default footrest

I am trying to locate a front driver's side water leak in a 2001 RX300. I need to pull back the carpet but cannot remove the darned footrest. Does anybody know how to do this? The Lexus repair manual merely says remove footrest - install footrest, with no directions as to how to do so. Huntsvill Lexus says it is bolted in. Can't find any nut or bolt. My brother who is a mechanic says it should slide on over a flanged pillar. Help! Thank you.

Thanks carguy07. I have already pulled the drain tube and found it to be clear and clean. the photos from rx300how2 were great. However, there was no information on how to remove the driver's left footrest. Can you help on that specific item? thanks.

I took a quick look and can't figure it out. But I did notice the right side of the footrest has a lot of flex to it. You can lift it up and feel around inside the footrest to try and determine how it is mounted. You may even try to flex up that side and slide a small mirror in there to see the mounting.

bbarineau- This may not help you- but maybe it will. I don't own the Rx that I'm listed with, (it's my DIL's , I'm just the mechanic) so I don't have access to it right now but my wife does have an '02 Camry and i have had the footrest off of that. There are two threaded studs spot welded to the floor and the footrest simply presses onto those. To remove it you simply "yank" up on it and it comes right off. It takes a pretty good "yank". Check it out, because they're both made by Toyota, it may be held on in the same way. hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip, code 58. I discovered there are two posts as you suggested. I pulled up as hard as I could but the thing would not budge. I will try again with a prybar. I will also try mikey00's suggestion of using a mirror to try to see the attachment points.

bb- If it has 2 posts I'm pretty sure it is just "Punched on". A flat pry bar probably work best for the 1st. time. i have had it off several times and now I can just give a really good "yank" (straight towards you) and it comes off.

Default footrest

code58 and carguy07: thanks so much for your help. Actually, the footrest is pressed onto two threaded studs. But I couldn't pull it off or pry it off. I discovered two circular plugs in the chevron embossed plastic of the footrest. They matched the pattern so perfectly that I didn't see them until someone much younger with better eyes than mine pointed them out. Turns out that simply inserting a wide bladed screwdriver into a slot in the plug pattern and turning counterclockwise while gently lifting up on the footrest freed each post easily. No thanks to Lexus for being so stingy with information to help out in this situation! Thanks again code58 and carguy07.
