About two months ago I was putting in some CDs into to CD Cartridge for my wifes 2001 RX300. The thing slid in fine, but the next day when she tried to play them they wouldn't work. I looked myself and noticed that the cartridge had jammed itself into the player. I tried, tried and tried but it wouldn't come out. So, about three weeks ago, I took it to my dealer and in about two seconds they had taken it out. The service man told me I would need a new cartridge. Reluctantly, I gave the cartridge another chance. It seemed liked it was working until it popped up with an Error 3 (which I don't know its meaning). I ejected it and was going to work with it later. Then I started hearing a noise inside the CD player. It constantly makes this noise, that sounds like the mechanism is trying to eject the cartridge, which has already been removed. Let me repeat, it constantly makes this noise. Even with the cartridge in, it makes this obnoxious noise. I'm at my wits now and need some help. I realize I might have to buy a new/used working unit, but my problem is how and can I install this myself. Also, I heard something about a reset button that sometimes works, but I don't know where that is located.
It sounds like a mechanical problem. Before you pull the player apart, borrow or buy another cartridge to see if that's the problem. That might be a cheaper and less frustrating place to start. If you can verify the changer is good, a new cart would solve the problem.
If memory serves, that CD player was made by Pioneer. You might do a little digging around in our archives, particularly in the classifides, to see if one might be available. Try our vendors too for discounted parts. Otherwise, check the 'net for similar Pioneer carts - you can probably find one at less than full retail price.
If, OTOH, you discover you have a problem with the changer, you can probably find a suitable replacement here in the CL classifieds.
