Question spark plug gap

I just purchsed a set of NGK iridium IX plugs .They come pre gaped at .40 thou. I know the gap for my 99 rx 300 is .44 thou. my question is ,should i install them as is or should i gap them to .44? I got them on line, and after i punched in the info. on my engin it said i could use these plugs.

I saw that on one of their sites once when investigating using the IX back in 2004 as it listed it pregapped. I think if I remember correctly, the torquemasters I am using right now throws a wider gap than .044, but they work wonderfully in burning the bad gas down here, but will have to see what effect it has at sea level once day.

I took a look at NGK's site, and they show the one that fits as BKR6EIX-11 3764 0.044 (part number, stock number, gap) for the IX Iridium, is that what you got?

You mean .044?

From what I read in the manual (and I just went back to check), they show the correct gap for a new plug to be .043 in. or 1.1 mm (small enough), and the max gap for used plug to be .047 in. or 1.2 mm. Mine definitely have a wider gap, but I also have an Optima Battery, grounding wires and the hypervoltage system to back that those TQMaster Plugs up.

I don't see any problem with installing them, the part numbers match up.

Let me relate something.

At one point I tried Torquemasters well before I tried them in recent fashion and got no benefit whatsoever. You might not feel much differently using the IX Iridiums (either on MPG or butt of your pants feel). As I mentioned, my current modifications seem to help my RX get the benefit of the wider gap Torquemasters.

The difference you are referring to is quite small and would not trouble me a bit.

The computer at KRAGEN where I got the same plugs said in big bold letters, DO NOT RE-GAP.

I also read NGK purposely has them set for better performance than OEM specs by design. So I don't plan to gap mine. I wish I had time to index them though

Can someone post the link that describes the process of switching out the plugs. I could probably find it if I tried but is sounds like a couple of you were just there.

Lex,
What would you say you really got out of switching to the tourqemasters? I wouldn't mind a few extra horses uneder the hood, but i'm certianly not going to the trak anytime soon. I am at sea level and am not really sure if it would be worth bumping up. I'm not really concerned about the $$, more so just about the performance and mechanical longevity of my RX.

Thanks

The only way that these kind of plugs will benefit you based on my experience is from modification. Like I said earlier, I had used them once (this was way back when I was still known as Lexmexico on this board)and nothing (it surprised me even with the bad gas). However, with these plugs, I read enough to understand you need some more air or juice going through, hence my air, electrical and to an extent my exhaust modifications. The electrical seems to be the bigger of these issues from my readings.

The $$$ is not that much for those plugs, there are plenty of other things out there like the $13,000 TTE Kompressor that gets 49 hp max (maybe a little more if your are lucky) that are less benefit to the $$$.

Not to say you won't feel anything, but if you are looking for that WOW factor, it will be much stronger with a little more tuning. My RX was stock mechanically wise except for a K&N filter when I first tried them out, so I know very much the difference when I put them in late last year.

Here is a nice web site that shows how to change the plugs:

Here are some alternative ways to do it:
