Definitive data point gathering for Sludge problems
Trying to gather clear data in which circumstance this sludge problem occurs.
This is for everyone who owns an RX300
please indicate if you have or had sludge problems or not
1. Year
2. AWD or FWD
3. oil change interval (2000 miles, 3000 miles, 5000 miles, never changed etc etc)
4. brand of oil (toyota, exxon, castrol etc etc)
5. viscosity of oil (10w-30 etc etc)
6. total miles
7. oil filter brand
8. did you perform the 30k 60k 90k 120k 150k or 180k mile service?
9. anything else you think we should know.

3. Oil change interval: religiously every 5,000 miles, serviced exclusively by dealer, lease car.
4. Brand of oil: Valvoline (dino)
5. Viscosity of oil: 5w-30
6. Total miles 68,000 - 3yrs, 4 mo. (extended 36 mo. lease to wait delivery of new RX 330.)
7. Lexus - changed every 5K
8. Did you perform the 30k 60k mile service? Yes, by dealer.
9. Other service: Replaced 1 O2 sensor at 44K, upgraded tires at 28K.
Oil pan dropped by dealer at trade-in, no sign of sludge. Mostly driven on freeways, No commuting, .some light off-road. 8 to 10 long trips - over 1000 miles. Some extended idling (1-2 hours while using vehicle as office on location). First trip within 21 days of delivery was 6,800 miles in 23 days.. NEVER a recorded problem.

9. anything else you think we should know. K&N Filter at 37k. Nothing but oil changes, new front brake pads and tire rotation since I got it at 37k. D Drive Indicator light out.

9. Cars runs like a charm, dependable, etc. did have transmission changed at 68,000 under warranty. Dealer has serviced car regularly and looks for problems which they have taken care of under warranty. No complaints.

5. Most of the first year and a half, 15W-50, later 5W-30, now a 5W-50, once a 10W-30.

9. We have checked under the valve cover several times, and it is clean as a whistle. With each oil change, I use Liqui Moly Engine Flush, and have used Restore (the oil additive, not the injector cleaner)
No sludge.
