Change oil before Lexus complimentary 5K mile service?
Just curious...on your new Lexus, did you folks change out the engine oil really early (e.g., around 600 miles or so after purchase) to get rid of all the cr*p in the oil from the manufacturing process, or did you wait until the free 5K maintenance to have it (oil change) done so as to not needlessly spend money on an extra oil change?
I did it myself at 800 miles. Would have done it earlier, but drove the car home. Used Mobil1 5/30 full synthetic and OEM filter, so never took the car for any free service. Even if dealer wasn't 50 miles away, I rather change the oil myself.
But if you want them to change it at 500 miles, they shouldn't object at all. Just make an appointment, and talk to the service manager if the consultant gives you any grief. Good luck.

Some recommend changing it at somewhere between 500-1000 miles. I'd say change it with conventional oil over synthetic oil for now. You can run sytnethic oil after the car is worn-in, around 10k miles.
