I had my navigation software change today at Nalley Lexus in Atlanta. The whole thing took about 10 minutes and consisted of switching out the disc in the unit in the trunk while I waited. It doesn't affect the locations stored in memory or any of the preference settings.
Whoops, I spoke too soon! I turned on the Gas Station and Restaurant POI icons and there are a fraction of the icons on my screen witht this disc compared to the one they replaced. Icons that appeared on the map with the older version are not there now.
Either they put in the wrong disc, the one they put in is defective or the newer software has far less POI's programmed than the older one (which makes no sense).
I will be talking to my dealer to find out what's going on.
I had mine done last week too. My stored memory places are still there. It does seem better in that MOST of the addresses seem to actually be where the unit says they are (unlike before the update), but there are still some that are not exactly correct. I haven't yet determined if this update is really an improvement or not, but it APPEARS to be. I also have a portable GARMIN STREETPILOT. The Streetpilot, I think, is a better unit. But to be fair even it gets addresses off by a 50 feet or so from time to time...so I beleve Lexus is about "there" to, using the Streetpilot as my standard.
daryll40, have you checked out the POI's on your upgraded system? If so, does there appear to be the same, less or more than the old version. Mine has many less than than my original software. Some areas have a lot, but some (which had before) now have none - including my neighborhood. Gas stations seem to be consicuously deleted compared to the older version.
I'm not certain if the new software is more accurate, but it certainly is more updated with respect to street names. A few streets that were on the original version as "un-named roads" now have names and one street that was relatively new and wasn't on the older version is on the newer one.
I agree many less Gas Station and less Restaurant POI icons. There is a new symbol on state roads.
The lexus swebsite says the 2005 Ls4390 dvd system includes over 5 million pre-programmed points of interest. Where are they?
It didn't cost anything to upgrade as part of a program to correct what was a less accurate software system on the '04 model nav. systems.
Interestingly, the new disc has road names that weren't on the older version, but some streets that had construction a few years ago and were changed now show up as the pre-construction layout. They were fine on the version that came with the car.
I really don't understand sending out updated software that has less POI's (my observation). While I don't use that option often, I do use it while on a road trip to an area I'm not familiar with. In addition, why would it have wrong street positions that were correct on the older version?
i just got the upgrade notice today from lexus. Will get that done next week when they re program my transmission..... My 01 LS430 went to the dealer once a year at the most. This one has been back so many times in a year it is unreal.. Fuel pump, Tranny replacement, now tranny reprogram , nav up grade,,
What the heck is going on with LEXUS????
I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. The tranny/fuel pump thing is because they went to a 6 speed and found a problem which they are making good on. The NAV thing shouldn't have happened, but, again, they are making good. Once the items are fixed, there is no reason to believe that today's LS vehicles won't last as long as all prior ones.
I agree with daryll40! They made a number of changes on the '04 model. Other car companies wouldn't even tell their customers about the transmission and fuel pump issues until they got a critical mass of complaints and had to do something. Lexus voluntarily made the changes (at significant cost) with virtually no reported problems and with an extremely low potential of any problems actually happening. With respect to the software, well the version they change out that was "inaccurate" was infinitely more accurate than the nav. system I had in my Audi. I can also tell you without a doubt that Audi would not have handled the re-calls in the customer oriented way that Lexus did!
Now don't get me wrong, I still think LEXUS is the best label in the world, We have had 5 of them.
The first 3 were NEVER in the shop,,,,,, NEVER. My 04 LS430 has been there a lot.
Twice for the fuel pump problem.
once for the transmission replacement...
Now it has to go back for the Transmission Recalibration
& for the Navigation Update......
Just seems kind of wierd. These thing never happened With Lexus before
Also it seems like my wife's GX470 has had more issue's than the RX's we had before
Maybe when they fix my Transmission so it does not "BUCK" when you slow down to 10 MPH & speed up again, I will be in love with this car again..
