Default EPS Failure

Anyone gotten this error? It seems like it comes up when the battery is close to dying since it can't provide sufficient power for the eps system.

Tried disconnecting the battery and error is still up.

I have a mechanic appointment planned for the fuel pump leak this week but if it's just the battery I might have it replaced before they try to tell me the whole eps system needs replacing when it doesn't, however no way of knowing I guess until I purchase it.

Yes, if your battery is weak and does not have a strong start even with a jump start, I had similar issues with my OEM battery as it would throw weird errors including "TVD malfunction' etc. Never happened with my AntiGravity Lightweight Lithium Ion battery. Starts insanely fast.

Thanks that helps a lot! Everyone has mentioned the battery being the culprit most likely and I haven't seen anyone have an actual eps failure on the RC 350 or F.

I'm guessing you didn't just have the error notification but the power steering was actually not working? I read it takes a lot of battery power for it to work properly.

I will probably go ahead and have it replaced today.

My batt did die while doing some wiring and having the electronics running about a week ago, I wonder if that lead to the battery's demise.

I never drove the car when the errors were coming up since it was struggling to start up. I only started it because it was stored for the winter. It was when the battery was out of charge and was struggling to start and all the lights were flashing. I replaced the battery shortly after that.

With the Antigravity battery, do you use a regular 12 volt charger for automotive use or did you also purchase a specific charger for that battery. I've ruined one li-ion battery for my motorcycle by charging with my normal auto battery charger.

All li-ion batteries need a special charger specific to lithium batteries. None work with the standard lead acid chargers, as far as I know.

LoST180 and I installed ours at the same time. Very happy with this battery.

This battery is amazing. It is pricey, but it is worth it. I got the 24 Ah version so it is only 12 lbs (stock was nearly 40 lbs). It comes with internal battery management system so when the battery drains after being parked for a long time, the battery management system goes into battery saving mode and prevents the battery from draining fully so it starts up ferociously even after 3 - 4 weeks of being parked. Also, lithium ion batteries are supposed to last twice as long as lead acid batteries up to 8 - 10 years. The battery also has an internal jump start feature where it came with 2 key fobs. If you do end up with a dead battery, one can start the car by pushing either the button on the battery or on the key fob.

If you don't park the car for extended periods of time (such as, several months) then you don't need a trickle charger as the internal battery management system manages the battery health. Otherwise, there is a specific trickle charger for lithium ion batteries that would be needed.

Just as an update, I tried the new battery today but error still is coming up. A little disappointing considering "lexus reliability" so I guess we will have to see once my mechanic looks at it when doing the fuel pump fix. I have read it could range from the ecu failing to a loose eps cable.

Hopefully, it gets resolved and probably more connection related than anything. Never heard an electric power steering issue in RCF ever happening. Definitely, this is the first I have heard of it.

Yeah I did tons of research and it seems it was only an issue with older Lexus that had a loose factory connection which was an easy fix.

I am hoping it might be the same or perhaps the alternator? Guessing if that was failing the eps might not be powered properly.

I do have an aftermarket extended warranty with the car luckily since factory warranty just ran out. Disappointed with the down time more than anything and even if it's a simple fix, mechanic might lie about it needing a part for that extended warranty $$$ lol!

We will have to see
