Default Lexus Performance Driving School

It is a day of driving--here in N. CA it is at Laguna Seca near Monterey. I looked over some of the vids on YouTube and it seems there are three different "skills" that they introduce. About a thousand bucks but you get to use their cars (considering they probably wreck a set of tires during the drifting play, that seems reasonable). Has anyone gone? What were your impressions?

wrote a review here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rc-...struction.html

they also offer a new class as of this past oct. called masterclass that you can take after the base class (prerequisite). more focus on track time and data via sensors in the car to help guide you on improvements to go faster...smoother. it's up on their website. i've done both but haven't written the masterclass review yet. big fan of the school tho.

Thanks for the link to the review...good to know they still will run it in the rain since I'm signed up for next Feb. I live about 2 hours out so will likely get a room in Carmel or Pebble and leave dog and wife while I go play. Did the RCFs (or other cars) have TVD? If so, did they discuss which mode was best for which of the three experiences?

nice! it should be a blast. i personally don't have exp with tvd but i believe if you enable it there's an indicator on the dash? if the cars they used had tvd there was nothing indicating it was engaged. back then they used rcf's for the skid pad and a few runs on track. track was lc500 as well. when i did masterclass last month they used is350's for auto-cross instead of gsf's back in 2019. prob because gsf's are discontinued. they planned to have is500's but i believe the general shortage of parts caused delay in availability.

they didn't talk about tvd related to auto-cross, track and skid pad.

My general experience is, when you want to do tight maneuvering at slow to medium speed then 'slalom' is the best. It will give you the best instantaneous turn rate where you will pull nose-in with the least amount of steering input. If you are primarily going to drop on high speed momentum/flow type of turns maintaining your racing line on the track then 'track' mode is the best one where instantaneous turn especially off-center on the steering is not as important as consistency through the turn and carrying speed. I never use 'Normal' mode, but I think it is something you would use in general driving conditions.

I'm registered for the school in Feb at Laguna Seca. Can't wait to drive an RCF around a track!

If you just want to take your car out on a track there are usually much cheaper options. There are more then likely groups that offer track days to amateur drivers in your area and provide instructors for a faction of the cost.

I was going to do the same offer but in Canada. Price was around $700 I think. Couldn’t get the day off. In the end found out they only drive on the DDT (yawn) at CTMP instead of the GP (hell yes). Found a local group that organized groups of amateurs for about $450 that use the GP track.

That's true, my nephew has gone on several track days with his Mazda Miata at Laguna Seca; but I don't see anything wrong with using their cars and tires devoted specifically to Lexus--especially drifting. If I enjoy the experience might take my car back for a track day some other time. Lets face it, at 71 I'm not that interested in thrills for thrills sake.

You say that now, but trust me, once you try a track day you’ll get hooked just like I did.

I’m signed up with my son for February as well. Looking forward for a nice drive up the coast in my 2016 GSF. Looking forward to the masterclass activities.

The track here in Austin has car clubs that will rent the track for track days. The problem is that they are not cheap. The cost is already close to what the Lexus Track day event will cost. And... I will get to drive their cars!

After doing some HPDEs the last two years, I'd really like to sign up for one of the Lexus ones. One day it'll line up with my availability.

HPDE is about $450 for the weekend with NASA around here. Can usually join in on another club's track days also. Figure the price on the Lexus event is comparable considering you're using their cars, gas and tires.

Interesting to see where many of the RC F “Track Editions” ended up…

Did you know..??

Track Editions do not come with TVD.. The utilized the standard TORSEN LSD for the rear end

If anyone with a track edition can take this same pic that would be cool for me to compare tags..
