You’ve probably seen a post similar to this but I’ve been debating on upgrading the head unit on my 2016 rc350 f sport so I can finally have CarPlay and a bigger screen. The Lexion unit is the one I have been looking at and right now it’s 799 on their website. If you happen to have one I have a few questions.
1. Does the phone call audio really bug out when accepting in CarPlay? Also I’ve seen people say there was an issue when using maps and Waze. If so is there a fix?
2. Piggybacking off number 1 Is there any sound quality drop off? I have the Mark Levinson system and I don’t want it to be put to waste.
3. Do all the OEM functions work like steering wheel buttons, dash buttons, touchpad, parking sensors?
4. Do I need to install an external gps and mic or can I use the OEM mic? I don’t want to have random mics and antennas that look out of place.
5. Any problems or issues I should expect or will have to deal with?
These are the questions that I have for right now. Thanks in advance. If you have any experience with the head unit or any other recommendations I would really appreciate it.
I got the Beatsonic CarPlay kit. Hooks up to OEM set up and works great. Absolutely no regrets. Lot cheaper too. Alternative to the more involved Lexon swap.
I've been debating on a unit too but wasn't really sure if the price justified it. I did however, see those portable wireless carplay/android auto units that plugs in to the cigarette lighter. I ordered one just to check how it looked and it actually fits pretty well in front of the oem unit. You can get them sub $100 or a better one for a bit more. There are some with dash cam built in so that may already be worth the price. I returned mine because it didn't have the dash cam. I may get one in the future, but will probably dig around to set up the power to a fuse then find a way to get the factory reverse camera to wire into the jack input on the unit since it's pointless to get another backup camera.
