I've had both and my experience was better with the TOMS, it is cheaper in price as well. http://www.nigel-jdmparts.com
Contact Nigel to see if he has any in stock.
i want to go with toms but idk who I can buy it from, plus I know someone who told me that the vrtune is amazing
I currently use the vrtune and couldn't say better things about it. I'll say I think the toms might be a lot more safe only because I had an experience with the vrtune. I was running setting 9 had my car on cruise control and all of a sudden my check engine light kicked on and it appeared as if I lost all turbo power. I then pulled over to reset the powerbox to the stock tune and after letting it sit for 30 minutes everything was back to normal. After going to autozone to have them clear the check engine light they told me it was a low boost pressure sensor malfunction. Oddly enough that kinda lets me know it's working by tricking the sensors for more boost. I've had the vrtune for almost a year and still enjoy it. I think the vrtune might push out a little more hp/boost than the toms but the toms should be safer also it's about half the price.
TOM's power box was created specifically for the 8AR-FTS motor and so was the BMS. I've always felt like the VR was a universal box with the right connectors.

Haha same experience here the other day, was pushing the car pretty hard and then got the reduced power warning. I was so spooked so I pulled over, removed the tune for the night, and the following morning disconnected the negative on the battery, reinstalled tune and haven't had a problem since then. The thought is in the back of my head but it puts me at ease knowing someone else had the same experience
Just installed Tom's powerbox today, very easy to setup and i fixed it onto the fuse box using the supplied 3M tape. Not floored the accelerator yet as traffic was heavy, but after 30mins of driving, there was no CEL and no weird sounds coming from the engine, so i'm just happy i installed the box correctly, shall test it out more in due time.
