Default F Sport intake question

So, Sewell has the F Sport intake for the 2IS and I am planning on purchasing one. However with that said I noticed you can purchase the whole kit (lower intake box, blinged out F Sport tube and filter) or just the intake box and filter. I know the intake will provide negligible additional performance and is mainly to enhance the sound of the car. So with that said is there any significant or worthwhile reason to spend an additional $170 for a chrome tube other than appearance?

Not really, but i think id rather have the tube than the lower box. The lower box just has the gills removed and a hole in it,...things you can do yourself, easily.

The tube is the only part that does add performance... (about 5 hp)

That said, if you wanna save money then spend $125 for a Joe Z pipe for the same gain, and cut a hole in your stock lower airbox for the sound for free.... then buy the F-sport filter by itself to have something reusable.

If all you are looking for is the sound, then just dremel holes into your stock lower airbox.

Thanks for the info guys. I went ahead and ordered through Sewell just now. I wasn't going to ghetto rig it by cutting holes in the factory box. Gotta love the Sewell discount!

But no one will know it's ghetto rigged except you. I'm going to order the Jay Z one, don't need the sound, but want 5 more hp. yeah.

Good choise in not "ghetto rigging" it. I bought mine on Sewell and im glad I did, looks good, sounds good. And I swear she runs 2x as fast, or maybe it's me just pushing her harder just to hear that sound

Well got the intake in from Sewell yesterday and installed it. So far...loving it. Install was easy...though it took about an hour and a half as I was being very careful and reading the instructions over a few times. I know, intake installs are cake...I just didnt want to screw anything up.

My impression of the intake: Silent at idle and even under normal throttle. Even at high rpms if you are not on the throttle a good amount you really dont hear the intake. For example if I switch over to the paddle shifters and downshift, the rpms will pop above 3k but the intake only makes slight noise. I believe it is just a matter of being near WOT to get the intake to really talk. When it does however it sounds great! The butt dyno says no real power increase...however it does seem to surge a bit better above the 4k mark. Im assuming due to better breathing...or my mind just says so because of how it sounds. Overall nice little mod.
