I mean, apparently you can't feel the little hp it makes and the sound isnt a huge difference. Wouldn't it be smarter to use those 3 bills to save up for an actual exhaust?

your exhaust isn't going to mean much if the engine is choked of air

Intake and exhaust make the car sound better and also add measurable hp.... whether you can feel that gain or not is a subject of debate on here.

Its basically to match the sound for our car, the exhaust sound is from 0~3200 rpm, from the point on, you hear the intake sound, its just for sound purposes. Non of the performance mods are worth it if you are asking this question, for example.

What is the point of an exhaust?

For a tuner car the answer would obviously be for more hp, for our car, the answer is Sound,

and exhaust cost 2-5 times as much, and adds less than 2-5 times more hp.

Neither adds enough to feel, but the intake is the better deal in hp per dollar.

(plus, the Joe Z is only $125, not 300... and if you want it louder you cut an airbox hole for free)

well the intake is part of the exhaust system. in my mind most intakes are worthless on the IS unless you are talking about the F-Sport or Joe-Z which utilizes the CAI stock system of the IS.

With that being said, why mod a car at all? Sheesh!

Laminar airflow helps increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine, increasing power by delivering more airflow to the combustion chamber due the the restriction removal.

LOLWUT? well the intake is part of the exhaust system.
I think he meant, the intake is part of the total airflow into and out of the engine.. So it would show more of an benefit with a more efficient exhaust, than with just a stock exhaust.

They are both components of the induction system, and decreasing the restrictions from either will benefit the overall volumetric efficiency of the air pump (the motor).

Only assuming there is a larger demand than the current configuration supports. The intake on the 2IS engines is large enough to support a whole lot more than 306 hp. Removing turbulence can only do a little bit when the velocity isn't all that high in the first place. Besides, if laminar flow were all it's cracked up to be, golf ***** wouldn't work. There's a whole lot more to effectively moving gas molecules from one place to another than making a smooth straight surface.

Also, restriction is a very relative term. Your powerband goal will tell you what is and is not a restriction. What's great for low end torque is very bad for high end torque and vice-versa.

Let's face it. There aren't a ton of bolt-on performance mods for the IS, so we take what we can get. The only reason I wanted an intake was for increased sound, because my car was too quiet. So, I simply cut a hole in my air box with my Dremel, and now I have sound when I want it. Under normal driving there is no difference and it didn't cost me a dime.
