Question Which Mod would you do first?

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice on the following: I purchased a silver 98 GS4 with 34K miles about three weeks ago. My luxurious silver rocket is stock right now and I am thinking about doing some modifications in the near future. My goal is to increase real world acceleration from stop light to stop light without sacrificing too much ride quality. I won't be doing any track racing, but want to be able to humiliate the occassional BMW and Audi that comes my way. So the question is this....which modification would you do first to get the biggest impact? BTW, I already reset the ECU. Thanks for your advice.

Mateo

Welcome to ClubLexus!

IMO a torque converter is going to be your biggest bang-for-buck mod, and also the least intrusive from a dealer perspective.

This exact same question has been posed a number of times - try the search feature to see what responses others have also gathered as a good starting place.

Here's a bunch of links I got through search that may be helpful. There's one question that is almost exactly the same as yours but I didn't find it yet. These are on a variety of 'which first' or 'which is best' mod topics.

I'd say suspension mod first.

Say Bit, which suspension mod you going to pick which will increase his real world acceleration stop light to stop light (straight line)?

J/K - I fully agree with you personally on a general 'which first' , but Mateo had a very specific goal in mind with his post - IMO the TC best meets his needs (or maybe now met, as this is an old poll/post someone voted on to resurrect).

I'm going with Tein CS suspension myself.

suspension first.. even though his goal was to drop the 0-60 time.. he could speed up faster.. but in the end.. need to step on the brake to change lane.. stock suspension sucks... so 0-60 can't change lane does not help..

Interestingly enough... lowering the car will reduce aero drag and improve acceleration proportionately to speed. Low speed = little improvement, high speed = surprising improvement.

Years ago (1989) I had a TBird Turbocoupe. I had raised the boost and was making around 225hp (up from the factory 190hp) I went to a 1/8th mile drag strip and proceeded to run 10 flat at 70mph. Another TBird showed up and ran 10.2 at 72mph!!! Obviously I wanted to know why his had a higher MPH. Turned out his engine was STOCK!!! He had cut the springs and the car was slammed to the ground. His lowered car was good for several mph improvement over mine. If he was stock ride height he would have ran apx 10.5 et and 67mph. BIG difference at relatively low speed... just over 0-60... Hmmm.....

I would do a TEIN coilover setup first.... The GS looks so much better dropped on 17's. Even better on 20's.....

I would buy a sticker that says "Fear This".....that in it self is the best mod that you can do.....and just think of all the people that will talk about your ride......"Hey did you see the GS with the Fear This sticker?".......

Ok sorry I just thought that would be funny.....here is my opnion....forget what everyone else told you to buy.....save your money....and buy a Turbo -or- Supercharger for the car....also after that modd is done invest in some brakes....they will come in handy.....I dont think this was an option but it is a good one....save your money....you can always do the other things suggested later on......
