Default removed my K&N

Took the K&N intake off my GS4 and put back the stock setup.

I think the car seems to have better drivebility with the stock setup. Anyone else notice this. I think the K&N gives better wot performance but part throttle response seems much better with the stock setup.

I had the K&N for about 6-8 eight months and I was also getting a bit tired of the raspy intake growl.

I agree. I had a K&N intake in my GS400 and it wasn't nearly as responsive as the factory intake box. Felt like a land yacht and sounded like tug boat. Pretty cool mod if you like to gas it, have it hum and go nowhere.

I think most, if not all, intakes have that affect on our cars. I remember reading somewhere that it actually decreases your torque. Off the line the car is going to feel slower but then when you get it up to speed it feels more powerful, usually at the mid and high rpm range.

The REASON is the stock box is tuned for good low RPM torque. This is done in more than one way but combining velocity with the helmholtz resonator are keys.

The aftermarket intakes increase peak flow capacity at the expense of low RPM response. Now, with enough dyno time and engineering a higher flowing box (than stock) with a properly sized, ported and located helmholtz resonator could be designed that would minimize any low RPM losses... could be designed.

This is just one more area of give and take that must be considered when modding. There are some mods that help all RPM ranges.

I might sell it later down the line. I want to try the intake again when I get another exhaust. Not sure when that will happen. I just dropped a few bills for the TRD sways at Sewell so it could be a while...

How can you modify the MAF? I read that you can use an older one (thanks Brian) but can any one expand on this? I am willing to be the guinea pig here... lol

^ I personally wouldn't mess with the MAF on these cars. The wrong A/F signals going to the ECU could make it run incredibly lean and BOOM...a pretty explosion. This is the EXACT reason why I do NOT tune my Apexi Neo (A/F ratios) myself; I'll leave it up to the dyno shop to do that (they would be responsible).

but your assuming its sending the wrong A/F signals in the first place...not to mention if you have a A/F gauge/meter you can check them to see what it is doing without blowing it up
