And if your solution is commercial you might need to deal with any DMCA lawsuits from Toyota/Lexus if you do get around their encryption stuff

Yes, but it costs money and you'll get nothing out of the lawsuit, so no one does anything.
This useless device produces no more power or mileage than stock. It is a straight up scam.
