Default Which oil do you use?

I was just curious as to what motor oil other people use. Last few oil changes the dealer did they used 5W-30. Also, what do the numbers mean, lower number less viscous oil?

Thanks, that answered my question. If I bring it up with Longo, do you think they will change the oil to 5W20 or will I have to wait until the next oil change?

Isn't that a overkill. Oil change every 2.5k miles...

In 1953 perhaps.

Today? Not so much.

Using normal conventional oil the 2IS can comfortably go at least 7500 between changes with normal driving habits.

With any decent synthetic you're looking at more like 10-15k between changes very safely... 25-35k with a really good synthetic like Amsoil.

The above is borne out by every single used oil analysis I've ever seen for the 2IS.

That said, using a conventional filter you should be changing that (which doesn't require a full oil change) every 6 months...

Now, if you only ever take very short trips where the engine never reaches operating temps, you should change every 3 months regardless of miles... but otherwise there's no reason to change nearly that often.

The 3k oil change is a myth, especially for modern engines, mainly repeated by people selling oil and those who don't know any better. Hell, even the -manufacturer- doesn't suggest it more often than every 5k for normal driving (and even that's money-wastingly too often)

Under normal driving doing something like changing a synthetic every 2.5k is literally pouring money down a drain.

^^ Maybe for the 2006 TSIB notice..

MY 2008 clearly states in the manual and the oil cap 5W30

I'm sure the 2009's are the same way.

I use the regular Mobil Clean 5000K mile oil...

Our IS350's take 6.6 Qts with Filter. Which equates to approx 6 qts & 19 oz

I usually swing by Walmart and buy a couple of the 5qt jugs..

Is it a better deal to buy it at Walmart with 5 QT Jug vs Costco 6 Quarts?
