hence the whole "you're literally pouring money down the drain if you change every 5k" thing. Hell, conventional oil is fine for more than 5k, so synthetic sure ought to be.

I've been using "Q" synthetic oil for the LS430 and it's been great so far!

And yeah, at least 5000 miles before an oil change. Anything less is just a waste, unless you are ricer racing all the time.

I use Mobile 1 Syn Extended 5W-20. Oil change @ 10k with filter changes at 5k.

Blackstone oil tests show that 10k is about it base on my driving style.

I guess I could have done the same to save money; filter changes at 5k miles and oil changes at 10k miles. I'm a 10 to 11k mi commuter. so for additional $40 -50 more a year on oil ain't that bad. Plus I feel the car runs smoother after oil and filter changes. My 2 cents.

Putting these fun facts in here too....

But, I think the 2007 TSIB notice just mentioned 2006 Models for the 5w20 change over.

MY 2008, still clearly states in the manual and the oil cap 5w30.

I think the 2009's are the same way.

I couldn't find anything official regarding oil grade change for 07'- models.

If Lexus was going to make the official change over for all the ISx50's, I would have thought all the 2008-2009 models would have the 5w30 changed to 5w20 in the printed manual & oil caps by now... No??

Hmmm. You are correct. The TSIB has been revised. It originally said 5w-20 was the new standard going forward, and Toyota said:

ILSAC GF–4 SAE 5W–20
This oil has been set as the Toyota genuine engine oil, starting in February 2006 for the U.S. This oil is superior in terms of fuel economy, engine protection, and cold starting performance.
ILSAC GF–4 SAE 0W–20
This oil has even better fuel efficiency and cold starting performance than 5W–20. Initial application for 0W–20 is in the 2006 model year 2AZ–FE engine and will be used in new engines to be developed.
This TSB (TSB No. EG018–06) certainly implies they expected to run 5w-20 for all new engines.
This TSB is '06 - '07 specific. By 2008, the 5w-20 recommendation remains on the 2AZ-FE, but returns to 5w-30 for the 2GR-FE in the Camry's owner's manual.

So, it sounds like the experiment with 5w-20 and 0w-20 worked for the smaller engines, but didn't work for the larger engines.

Thanks for the heads up. They've reversed course (again!)

I do know for certain the IS-F is 5w-30...

Joe is right. 5w-20 is for 2006 only.

Interesting stuff you got there Joe, I might have to re-write my own rule book now, oops bought some 5W-20 yesterday, back to Pep Boys lmao

Thanks for clearing this up Joe, you're right it's never been mentioned or said for the 08' models, like you said even the IS-F uses it.

Good info

go under the car, pull the filter cover, open the canister, change the filter, put the canister back on after changing the oring, start the engine, turn it off, check the oil lvl, add oil if you need too, look under the car for leaks, put the filter cover back on... its not rocket science
