Default Basline dyno: Bone stock GS300

Well guys I went today to a shop nearby to get a baseline dyno and talk about install of my turbo setup once everything is purchased, and I was actually pleased with the numbers so far.

2001 GS300, only mod l-tuned mufflers (didnt make a difference at all) 136k miles.

Numbers:

170hp at 5750rpm
159 ft/lbs at 4650rpm

the torque number may be slightly off because the trans was a little tricky as far as downshifts and stuff but i feel those are accurate numbers. Now i'll have a good base point to reference against once I boost, and everyone else with a GS3 will be able to tell ballpark what kind of power theyre making out of the box. I'll try to get a scan of the dyno sheet later.

It actually has 220 hp but that figure is at the crank, and this is horsepower at the wheels. You have to take in account drivetrain loss, which in our case, is about 22-23%. Therefore, rwhp is ~170.

My sc300 made 177whp with a ram air intake and removed cat. Your numbers are very accurate.

its actually 225 at the crank, so taking into account the 55hp lost through the drivetrain we're at a ~24% drivetrain loss. 170rwhp, plus ~4000lb = one fat lazy pig.

I've almost got my base kit put together but now I may have an opportunity that might send me in a diff direction, so my turbo stuff may be up for sale pretty soon.

this is mine on the dyno...i believe it made 182rwhp with exhaust, intake and headers
Only an additional ~12hp at the wheels from all those mods?

wow 170hp seems like a tremendous loss in power from a motor rated at 225hp, hmm, may have to think something over

um that seems about right actually 25% (roughly, although i thought it was supposed to only be a 20%) drivetrain loss

man, i do see why everybody runs turbo's now... why not just make the GS300 FWD and 400's RWD, would've cost less and more power... my max is rated at 222hp with 191hp stock to the wheel, man wouldnt that be nice in a GS, thats a bummer, i really didnt wanna mess with FI either, hmm

why not? i thought FWD were less to make because it allows for the engine/trans and whotnot to be pre-packaged. All the factory does is drop the body over it and tighten a few bolts, so it is much easier to assemble/transport.
