Well...it's...about...TIME! I agree with you about not dropping any more cash into the performance end of the car--that's where I plan to throw in the towel, too. Without FI, the $ per HP ratio is just too high!

It would be interesting to hear your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I wonder how your car would compare to a stock M5, C63, Mustang Cobra, etc. etc.

Thanks man...my mods are listed in my sig below. I would love to take it to the drag strip one day. I will be getting a nice fresh set of staggered T1Rs as soon as I get my rear wheels; so we will see at that time. yay for traction!

Thanks man...cost below of performance (strictly go-fast) mods:

FIPK Intake - at the time $350 (I installed it)
Borla SS rear section exhaust - $550 (Meineke installed for $100)
TM spark plugs - $100 (I installed)

3.76 (Supra) LSD - $1100
Precision Industries TC - $700
B&M Tranny cooler - $60
New tranny filter/Amsoil ATF - $120

The "bolded" were installed at the same time at a local shop over 12hrs...$1150.

Apexi Neo A/F controler - $275 (I installed)
Boomslang custom PnP harness - $225 (I installed)
cost for tuning - $250

S&S Headers - $450; used (a local shop installed them for $800)
gaskets - $60
cost for tuning - $250

Grand total for everything: ~ $6,660. I don't regret it. The car is VERY reliable and has much more get up and go from stock. People may say that this is the cost for a used supercharger plus the install but you will also need an exhaust and headers at minimum to get the full benefits of the S/C. It is a toss up...I think FI would be more fun though.

Well I'm telling you right now...I'm not sure if it will fare well against those cars but I have never seen or read any numbers 0-60 or 1/4 mile times with a GS4XX with my mods and a fresh pair of stick Toyo T1Rs. If I had to guess if it hooks right. I would like to think it is capable of 5.0-5.1 0-60 times and mid 13's in the 1/4 mile. Highway pulls it REALLY opens up.

That's is still respectable numbers there. I think the bare heat coming from the headers is robbing you. Try to eliminate the heat into the intake or reduce the heat eminating from the headers.

I am a little embarassed and a little sad and have a sense of defeat. . $250 dollars later (cost of re-tune and dyno pulls). I am NOT dropping anmore money into this car to make it faster; the only way to make a REAL difference is FI hands down or throw one of those HP Lextreme longblock engines in there.lol

The results:

45 degrees and rainy

281.8whp
306wtq

13.2 a/f correction (the tuner mentioned that since I have cats on my car I am really probably running 12.9 but he mentioned that it wasn't making anymore power by leaning it out anymore so he left it at those numbers.

I screwed up in a boatload of posts I had previously written and I apologize to my CL friends...I thought my car previously made 269.4whp (so I rounded to 270whp) and 295wtq. When in reality the tuner pulled up my last year's results and it was 267.1whp and 291wtq. So my TRUE net gains from the headers and a re-tune with the Apexi Neo are: +14.7whp and +15wtq.

Just to show the importance of a correct tune - before he started the re-tune he conected the Neo and changed a setting (that I messed up on accident right after I got the headers installed; it was the MAF sensor setting) in order to start the car.

If you all recall I was upset right after the header install because I said it felt like my car LOST power...well in my case IT DID! Today, when he reconnected it with the old tune he was getting 263whp max (today's baseline) whereas pre-header with correct tune I got 267.1whp (last year). So the overall gain from what I was running with since I got my headers is probably close to 20whp and 20-25wtq (because the Neo had been disconnected this entire time).

So, in order for a GS400 to achieve 265-270whp and 290-295wtq you will have to have the following mods:

Intake
Exhaust
A/F controller

With the above list and addition of headers you will see 280-285whp and 305-310wtq.

So overall gains (from bone stock) with I/H/E and A/F controller is roughly 40-45whp and 55-60wtq. "Assuming" that there is in fact a 20% loss in power due to the drivetrain my car is now at ~353hp and ~383tq (the torque numbers may be inflated a bit due to my torque converter though).

So there you have it guys. The car feels GREAT though and VERY quick I noticed a lot more ooomph especially of the line but I really couldn't "test" too much today because as mentioned earlier in this post it is raining today.

Thanks for following my modding threads and results.
Rock,

First of all congratulations on the HIGHEST na power numbers I have seen for a GS4xx period!

Secondly, do not get too obsessed with a "number". The 2002 Infiniti Q45 was "rated" at 340hp and posted around 250whp and was not as "quick" 0-60 as the 2002 LS430 rated at 290hp!!!

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....7&print_page=y

You have made outstanding gains. With regards to your previous Neo tune making less power with the headers... I would bet there is SOMETHING else going on... like the stock ECUs re-learning tendencies.

Anyway, you bested your best, kick back and enjoy the accomplishment. Get your car to a track or get a GTech and learn to get the most from your car!

Not true, headers are coated. Actually, the engine bay runs a lot cooler compared to stock with these headers. Besides, when the car is on the dyno, the hood is open with fans blowing right into the engine bay, so I don't see how your claim can be acurate.

hmm... I don't know. My engine bay seems to be hot and my intake pipe gets hot too. If what you are saying is right, then I should just put a jacket on my srt intake.

Yes, the metal style intake will soak up a lot of heat, specially right above the radiator. All the hot air goes straight to the intake pipe when the fans come on.
