So i've been having some tranny issue for about a year now my car keep banging in second gear. So last last tuesday i jump in the car and pop it in gear and the car wouldn't move after a few try it finally worked.
wednesday morning it's did the same thing ,thursday i woke up with the intension to drop it at the local dealer ,and the same thing so i towed her to the dealer so when i got there it started to drive fine.
So after a few test drive the mechanic told me that i need a new tranny ,And i told them that i've been complaining about the tranny for about a year and that was before my warranty expires so my service advisor tells me that they don't have any record about me complaining about the tranny .After that i almost blew up and started going off on them. I m crossing my fingers till the claim goes thru cause i m out of warranty right.So i am driving a loaner right can't wait to get my car back.

What year GS you have?
I had a problem with my tranny on a 97 es300. Lexus wanted like 5k for a new one plus install. I ended up buying one at a junk yard with less miles on it then mine for $250.00 and then had lexus install it.

Also how close was the time with the warranty going out?
My headlights started to mess up right after my factory warranty expired. My lexus dealership gave me a number to lexus corp. I told them the story and they gave me brand new head lights and paid to have them installed. They called It "good will". becuase my warranty just went out.

I have an 02 GS. So a week later i never got a call from the lexus dealer so i decided to call them and the service advisor told me that Lexus will cover 50% and i will have to pay the other 50% which i am not going to do if they would have listen or keep my car little longer then and test drove it we would not be talking about this ,then i asked him 50% of how much ? $5000 ?
i will pay only pay $100 dollars which was deductible before my extended warranty expires.So after that i called the lexus corporate i should hear something by tuesday. i will keep yall posted

OK so i got my car back on monday at 10 am and around 4pm i had to take it back to the dealer cause i am still having the issue that i had before replacing the tranny.The problem was the car was banging into gears .So yesterday the serv Advis told me that i need a new TB and quoted me $1600 install and asked me "do you wanna do it" i was like no. Then i talk to the custumer relation lady which i knew.So now i m just waiting for them to call me and tell that my car is ready,cause i am not paying any money out of my pocket.

 

So as of today 11/12/2008 i am down to my 3rd tranny on my 02 GS3 on 07/10/2008 they replace tranny which i didnt need .So sunday when i got i see smoke coming from passenger side fender then i was like WTF look under the car and i see smoke coming from the exhaust manifold and the whole exhaust come to find out it was some trans fluid.
So took it to lexus on monday and they said it the tranny that need to be replace,i will keep you guys informed.

 

Here in Dubai, you can get the Aristo/Supra Auto Trannies for approximatly $150 !
and installation is cheap !

So i got my car back and they replace the tranny it's shifting fine and not leaking anymore so let see what happen for the next 6 months ,but this the reason i refuse to buy an Acura TL.
I am getting an SC so wont drive the GS that much

 

Damn mine has been banging into second gear too for the past year. I checked it and it says something with the shift solenoid. I got that replaced at a local body shop and the symptoms came back shortly afterward. I really hope it doesn't go out on me anytime soon. I go to school 150 miles from home and hope that it doesn't go out on me one day on my way back or to school.

 

Just remove the TB and clean it with some gum cutter or TB cleaner that's what i did and it run and shift perfect.
