if i remove resonator will i still pass emissons??
Hey Guys & Girls,
I just got back from the muffler shop, where I had my Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust bolted up (special thanks to Luis at Carson for hookin us up with the GB)
. The set up looks and sounds great; I just had one question about removing the resonator. If the resonator is removed will my car still pass an annual emissions test? I am sure that removing the resonator is a pretty common occurrence for those of us with upgraded exhaust systems; I just don’t know how many of you live in an area where a vehicle must pass a smog test or an emissions inspection before registering or renewing it.
I am now going to go give my left arm to fill up, and then may cruise around some…
Thanks in advance for your input.

this is true but the one thing you want to be careful of when removing the resonators is droning or in-cabin resonation. so do this mod at your own risk and with no benefits other than sound...you will get no increase in power from it as the resonator does not restrict any flow. if you want a little more power remove the 2ndary cats and/or get race cats but if you comppletely remove the 2ndary cats you prob wont pass smog...
For our 2nd Gen GS, our cats are not even close to bein restrictive. They are the most free-flowing cat I have ever seen for a stock car. I'm going to remove my resonator soon because my Borla exhaust itself is too quiet. Can't wait!
My pass side pipe between the cat and the front resonator is leaking (rust from the heat shield clamps) and I need to repair, was thinking of taking out the pipe and front resonator, just not sure just yet.
