Have any of u guys that went and did after market headers ever notice a strong exhaust odor inside the car while tyhe car is running @ a stop light or just stopped period, and if so is it normal, and if not how long was it like that for. I really cant take the smell. Just to let people know its a 98 gs300, and i put obx headers on.
your not the only one, i hav megan headers and it has a rich smell,
also i hav a header exhaust gasket leak, so when i fix it this weekend, i'm hoping i'll get better
Yeah I have the OBX headers too but it will happen with all headers, or close to it. Elimination of the cats will do it everytime. I dont know whats worse, the smell or all the black crap that gets on the back of the car. Needless to say Im about to reinstall the stock header.

That means you have an exhaust leak in the engine bay as tommy stated. Did you retighten the headers after lets say after 100 miles? Bolts tend to loosen up after you install them because of the heat so you have to retighten them.
i had the same problem and thought i was that the fuel wasn't being burnt...a gasket may help but i believe you will still get the smell...i couldn't stand the smell and have to wash the tailpipe every other day so i went back to stock lucky for me i kept my stock parts...
The thing is that i didnt smell anything that would indicate a leak under the hood. i had the car on a lift remote started the car clogged both tail pipes with rags and started up front under the car went all the way in the back of the car and didnt smell any raw fuel burn i did have a gasket leak where the header meets with the y- pipe but i changed that with oem gaskets and there was no leaks there, ive also tried the same senario with the car on the ground and tail pipes clogged and checked under the hood and the same thing.no smell its just coming from the tail pipes, i was wondering after a nother cl member (kipod) suggested getting a high flow cat converter and install it down stream from the header. would that restrict exhaust air flow, and would that solve the problem
