Help: Tanabe Exhaust dilemma (Touring vs Hyper)
Hi All. I just picked up a GS300, and looking to get an exhaust for it. Here is my dilemma. I want the Tanabe Medallion Touring for the GS, but I found this SWEET local deal on a used Tanabe Medallion Hyper. (saving about 300 bucks)
Does anyone have any experience with both of these exhaust and can help enlighten me on the noise difference. The touring is suppose to be low and have very minimal droning at crusing speeds, I'm not sure about the Hyper. Any help would be great.
I have small kids that I take to school in the GS, plus my wife drives it so I would like the cabin to be a comfortable / quiet as can be.
Thanks all in adavance.

A $300 savings is hard to pass up but keep in mind you'll be driving this car every day long past the period where that $300 makes a difference. Six months from now will you be saying "Damn this thing is loud, but hey I saved $300!"? I have a Touring and it's great, more muted than the Hyper for sure, I too have kids and drive them to school every day, in daily use it just sounds nice and throaty, when you get on it hard it really makes a statement. The other thing is the look, imho it looks better by far, nice oval cans and finished tips, more mature looking for lack of a better word.

I have the Touring...and when I first got it, it was too loud for me. I came very close to removing it, and going back to stock.
I loved it at WOT, but just around town cruising, it was 'always with me'...like when just pulling away at lights, or even on the highway. On the highway, when cruising, it's muted, but you can still hear it a bit. Some drone... It's the curse of having such a quiet Lexus cabin, ANY new noise stands out.
Again, coming from stock Lexus quiet (and I already had an intake, so mine wasn't even 'stock Lexus quiet' at the time), it's a jolt to the system if you're not used to it. And I wasn't.
NOW...almost a year later, I love it. I absolutely love the sound it makes, loving it's sound of aggression. It's still a little loud for me at times...like sometimes when I have clients in the car and we're chatting, it seems to me to be a little obtrusive (but I've never had a client mention it to me). All other casual riders in my car LOVE it. All women, all ages (even my friend's mom loved it and she's like 60 LOL)...and of course all men love it. It is the sweet sound of aggression that makes it so sexy.
And at WOT, it's just intoxicating.
And the full catback stainless steel looks sweeeeeeet.... The SS canisters and pipes really make a visual statement when someone approaches you from the rear, as I get thumbs up from folks all the time.
I wouldn't trade it for the world now, but it took me a few months to get fully adjusted to it.
If you have the opportunity, ride in a GS first that has it. It's the best advice I can give, really.
It's a quality exhaust though for sure...but it ramps up the volume in the cabin as well. Definitely sporty sounding...
(I have the GS430 by the way)
