Default H=torque or X=HP what would U do?

I have seen the threads on replacing the resonator toward the back of the exhaust where the 2 pipes come together into one with an 'X' pipe.
I have done some research that points out an 'H' pipe would yield more torque.
Is this true? Also have read that the 'H' gives more of a low pitch grumble and the 'X' has more of a snare sound, comparing to each other.
This is not a track car and I spend the majority of my driving between 2k-5k rpms. My thought is the 'H' will give me the best of both worlds.

-more top end than I currently have because it will be 2 pipes all the way back as well as a restrictive resonator gone.
-It will still pronounce more of the V8 under the hood at idle and under partial throttle.

The only downside I can think of is that it will have to be all custom done as I have not seen a universal 'H' pipe.

Could I get some feedback on this?? I will be happy to report back if I go the 'H" pipe route...

Thanks all~

You know I was just thinking of the same thing. I would probably go with H as well. Just the problem is that the you will not be able to unbolt it and go back to stock, sort of a permanent thing. Also when you get it done, make sure they make it with flanges so that you can unbolt the midsection if you ever need to. I would like to know how it came out, and how it sounds.

Good point slick- I will have to get under there and do a little more consideration.
I really want to do this. I also really want it to look professional too, so I will need to paint it. That will be a pain since I seemingly cannot buy a complete 'H' pipe and paint it ahead of time and then just touch up the welds.

Any other comments or considerations.......

Thanks GSteg- I actually read that article. Should I inquire to what diameter piping the stangs use and see how close it is our our cars? What is ours by the way, 2 or 2.25? If it is a match or close and the price is right, should I buy the 'H' pipe. Then adapt it to my exhaust be modifying the additional piping needed with flanges on both ends to connect it my stock exhaust?

What do you think? Once all done I could then take it down and paint it up nice nice!!

I love my X-pipe. Sounds great! I might have picked up a few hp also.

from what i've read, the x-pipe is the best of both worlds.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...4&forum_id=101

I plan on using the x-pipe configuration.

Wow- that was a good read. I am torn now what to do. I think either way is better than stock. My challenge now is to decide X or H- with the long resonators or without. I know the 2 into 1 thing has got to go. I plan on keeping the stock mufflers to make sure this does not get too boy racer. Decisions.....
Thanks for keeping me undecided ;-)

The difference in gains will be minimal if any. Even with forced induction, I doubt there will be a big difference between H vs. X. A general rule is that chambered mufflers such as Flowmasters sound better with an H-pipe and straight-through mufflers like Borla and Magnaflow will sound better with an X-pipe. It's all more for matching the correct crossover pipe with the correct mufflers so you get the best sound. When I had my Cobra, most people ran X-pipes with straight-through mufflers because those mufflers actually yielded more power because of their design. Brands such as Flowmaster and MAC were more for the sound and yielded less power than Borla, Magnaflow, SLP according to the dyno.

Are our factory mufflers chambered or straight-through? Straight through sound aggressive, so I'm guessing chambered.

That is a good question. I am not sure myself.
