Exclamation Help! S&S Headers, now no Start!

Okay guys.

So I finally decided to install the S&S Headers on my 00 SC400 before I left for Thanksgiving vacation on the road. A little more go-juice for the holiday road-warriors.

Anyways found a shop 30 minutes away that would do the install same day for $500. GREAT.

They did the install and of course the flanges didnt match up as a previous member posted on his 99 SC400 Tutorial in FL.

He said he just drove it to a muffler shop and had the exhuaust adjsuted to fit.

Ok... so my install was done at 6:15 CST today. Called around and EVERY muffler shop was closed for Thanksgiving.

Ok.. still no problem. Just drive it back home the 30 minutes, wait until Friday then go straight to the Muffler shop.

3 Minutes from my house the car goes quiet. Dead. Trys to turn repeatedly, no crank. No start. Reset the ECU 5 times. Still no restart.

Had to remove the bumper, then pull the car home.

Still wont start..

Someone help me out please........

O2 sensors get burnt? Tom at TM Engineering can you chime in here? JBrady, anyone?

Well, depending on the reader you should be able to see pending codes - that is where you will find your problem. If your reader doesn't do that - bring it back and get one that does

It does, reading the manual. Getting an error on the reader.

Kept getting Error code???

Manual says check to connection or that the vehicle is OBD2 Compliant??

Possible imcompatible reader? Burnt wiring harness?

Thanks. This is stressful...

OK - does your scanner have a plug connection for imports??

Mine has one for GM, one for Ford, one for Imports, and one other one.

I don't see why it would be incompatible - OBDII is OBDII - shouldn't matter.

Does it just say "Error" or what exactly does it say?

Only place open was WalMart at this time.

Tester ASE Certified.

Company named Innova.

Actually says, "Error1".

Manual says If it says "Error", "Error1", or "Error2" then turn ignition off for 5 seconds, then back on to reset computer.

If that doesnt work, then make sure car is compatible?

No plug for imports.

Bought one before from Autozone for $180, this was the only option and it was under $100.

Will try again right now....

Does it say on the back of the box that it is compatible with imports>>??

Pull your ECU-B fuse for a little while and then try the car again.

Says Domestic, Asian, and European.

I think it is the tester. Will try to go across town to the other WalMart to check for another option. Not too hopeful of course.

Pulling ECU fuse now.

Already disconnected the battery for 20 minutes with no success.

How about trying a Pep Boys, Autozone, or someplace like that instead? They might have someone with a clue. Good luck.

So its official, I just went through 2 ODB2 Testers in 3 hours. Both were the same brand, granted. Both put out Error codes for communicating with the car ECU.

I resorted to unplugged the engine ECU directly.

Might try a 3rd ODB2 Testor in the morning if AutoZone is open.

Any more suggestions?

There are 2 categories of possibilities:

1. The installer left something loose and it disconnected entirely while driving.

2. A coincidental but unrelated to the install problem.

So you left the shop on open headers? How were the O2 sensors secured?

You say it went dead and will not crank. Do you have any power? Did you double check to make certain the battery leads are tight? What works and what doesn't?
