Tranny Leak!!!!!
Okay....well I have a 98 GS300 with 115k....I just recently discovered that I have a slight tranny leak and it appears to be the seal??? That's what my mechanic told me...but he doesn't deal with tranny's and he wont touch it...Where should I take my car??/How much do you think it will run me???Should I just get the parts from Steve Ganz and take it to a local tranny shop here in NY??? Anyone know of any places in NYC I should take it to????
Please help!!!!
P.S. My fluid level hasn't dropped.....I check it daily and still no change...yet I leave a puddle every where I go and there is fluid dripping from the front end!!!!
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Thanks D!!!! I should've just called you up first....I took it to my mechanic..remember the guy in LI??? Well he said it looked like the seal...but he just will not touch that tranny..I feel better that he told me no instead of saying....mmm...ummm....yeah...we can do it!!
Thanks Again!!!
Thanks Again!!!
Front input shaft tranny seal =BIG $$$$$$$$$ to replace as the trans must come out for access.
Rear output shaft seal=much less than above as only the driveshaft needs removal. Most likely the rear seal. Couple hours of labor with $15.00 for the seal and replacement fluid.
Cross you fingers.

If you see tranny fluid, it's the front pump seal. If it's oil, then it's the rearmain seal. Btw, there is a seal in front of your engine called front crank seal. Make sure you ask him which one it is.

Too bad you are not closer to me so I can have you do the work....I'm seeing tranny fluid...little spots here and there...it's comming from the front so it could be that front pump seal you mentioned....any idea as to an estimate of how much it will cost to fix??? Just so I can put a pillow under my chin when i get the bill!!!!!!!

If it's the front pump seal, He has to removed the tranny to replace it. I would ask him to replace your rear main seal while he is at it. This job will run you around $500-$800 at an Independent shop. Around $1000 and up at your local lexus dearlership.

Thanks JPI!!!
I figured it would be about that...There is a local shop around here that other CL members have recommended that the owner worked at Lexus as a Cert Tech for 5 years....that gives me some sort of comfort...I guess I should do the tranny flush at the same time...what fluid would you recommend??? Any addtl parts/seals I should change while he is in there aside from the two you've already mentioned???
