Default retract side mirrors automatically

I swear when I first had my 350h the side mirrors would retract when I locked the car. Now they won't. I have looked in the manual and the setup on the car and I can't find anything.

Does anyone know how to setup, or isn't this possible and I was dreaming?

thanks.

Over on the driver's side door, there are mirror controls. On top side on the left is a button that says Auto. That will turn on the automatic folding of mirrors. Next to that button, on right, is a button that folds or unfolds mirror. If you pressed it, the mirrors are no longer on auto.

Thanks for the explanation. I just tried it and it works like a charm

Lightbulb two ways to retract automatically

In auto mode, the default is to retract mirrors when you lock you car. You also can optionally change to retract the mirrors when you power off the NX; to set this option you have to go to the Lexus dealer.

YMMV,r

Interesting, I'm not sure I want to do it though. I did try to call my dealer to discuss it, but they never returned my message. So much for customer service.

I find I like the folding mirrors more than I thought I would, but not for the primary purpose.
We don't have many areas where the folding is a safety or damage issue.

What I like is that at a quick glance I can tell if the car is locked. :-)

I've done this a bunch of times.
Walking away and can't remember.
Wandering at a park or highway rest stop where a few of us are coming and going. Stuff like that.
I know there's other ways to tell. Look at app, etc. But if in sight range it's super easy sanity check.

I also use the mirror position to check if the car is locked and it's been so useful. However, we've started getting snow here and I've had to turn off the auto folding feature since I've noticed that there's some ice build-up with the freeze/thaw cycles. Figured I'd turn it off rather than potentially burn out the mirror motors .

I usually use the Lexus app to check if car is locked.
I don't fold the mirrors every time car is locked. I have it set manually when I only need to fold it.

I find leaving the mirrors unfolded, help a little to avoid potential door dings when not parked in parallel.

‘what does the dealership have to do? I’d like to switch this myself?

Its a hidden setting that is not available from the car's settings screen (for whatever reason, about 5 to 10% of the car's feature settings are not "driver accessible"). You can do it yourself, but it requires an OBD Scantool with the ability to customize these settings (or the Carista phone app and bluetooth OBD adaptor is another way to do so).

repost:
An important aspect of the Auto folding mirror housings is how you lock the doors.

Those locking methods that involve having the key fob present and:
1) Touching the outside door handle or
2) Pressing the Lock button on the fob will,
Lock the doors, set the alarm, notify the Lexus App and fold the mirrors (if enabled)

Those locking methods that do not involve the key fob (even if present)
3) Pressing the inside driver's door handle Lock button or
4) Flipping the inside door lock lever (lock only that door) will
Lock the door(s) but Not set the alarm, notify the Lexus App or Fold the Mirrors.
