Default key fob battery died

Surprisingly to see that the battery of one of the key fob died, after a half year usage of my new NX. Does anyone have the same? For my previous car, I changed my battery for the key fob after three years of usage.

Yup, had one replaced after three months. First fob to go dead after 63 vehicles.

First the battery died, got replaced at dealer. Next day or so the whole fob died, replacement took a few days.

We're awaiting out 2022 NX350H. I calendar a battery switch out for both fobs every 6 months on our current 2015 NX200t and will do so with our new ride. I learned this the hard way being out of town when it failed and had to scramble to find a replacement.

Lightbulb Spare

Is it not feasible to keep a spare battery or two in the car?

The card key battery died last week, just under 6 months of use. The key fobs however are both fine, but the key fob battery is about 2x that of the card key.

CR2412 (card key) vs. CR2032 (key fob)

I keep a couple in my glove box. I even have a spare fob hidden in the trunk (with the batteries disconnected).

Maintenance schedule states to replacement the smart key battery every 15k/18 months. I am not surprise it didnt last that long.

You're not surprised it only lasted 6 months for some people when maintenance schedule has a proactive 18-month replacement cycle?

A 18 month replacement interval tells me this system is using the battery quite alot. A Bad battery can easily shorten the cycle.

Default FOB Dead at 6 Months

My FOB died the day before my 5,000 Mile Service - disappointing.

I see several discuss keeping batteries available for emergency situations. Are there any instructions on how to replace the FOB battery or the key card battery? Thanks.

Lightbulb Smart Key is usually the cause of short battery life

If you are using a "Smart Key" then key fob battery life is significantly shortened. The whole "Smart Key" was a separate Lexus project that was not and still not, integrated in with key fobs , memory settings , and phone apps.

YMMV,

If you can use a key to unlock the entry door to your home you should be able to replace the battery in your key fob. It's that easy. One very important rule, never buy cheap dollar store batteries, it's not worth it. Always check the expiration date on package of battery make sure its several years out, as batteries can go stale sitting on the shelf in a store.

The video is less than 2 minutes long, so it's not that hard and no tools needed with Lexus fob either!

Here's how to replace Card Key battery too.

In the old days. FOB batteries seemed to las forever, at least several years. Anymore 6 months seems like a long time YIKES

YMMV,

My original fob battery lasted over 2 years. I keep my fob in a faraday pouch to allow it to sleep.
