Hi
I have the non ML system. I want to replace the 3 dashboard speakers, but without changing the amps and other parts. Is the Alpine s2 the best I can get? or you guys have other suggestions?

You can read about this question detailed on the other threads. I wouldn't put a 4" speaker, because the grille above only 3", so the sound will be lost. The other is that, based on my measurements, this speaker works in the 200Hz-20kHz band, so the diameter of the subwoofer is not important. In 4" the Alpine is not a bad choice, but on another thread the Morel Maximo Ultra was praised. I would stay with the 3.5" where the price/value is represented by the Kicker, and the premium is the Infinity and JL Audio. There are three critical points: 1. Material of tweeter membrane: avoid Mylar and PEI. 2.Speaker's sesitivity: to keep the original sound balance, OEM speaker has 83 dB/W /m. 3. Size (height): unfortunately, there is no reliable data which speakers will fit and which won't (this also applies to Crutchfield), so only buy speakers that someone has already installed (see other threads).
The S2 S40 has a sensitivity of 86dB based on the Crutchfield site a more sensitive speaker than what you list the OEM sensitivity as 83dB. Are you saying you cant dial it down to mesh w the door speaker via tone controls?
The S2 speaker will fit in the NX350 which is what another poster found.

If you also change the center, then - in principle - you can really compensate for the double(!) sensitivity of the S2 with fader, but forget tone controls.
I didn't say that 4" wouldn't fit, but diameter of the grille above only 3" (see pic). So you cannot seal the gap betwwet speaker and grille (see OEM sponge), indeed I can't rule out that the larger speaker surround touches the bottom of the grille, but I'm sure that the narrow opening - depending on the frequency - will drown out the bigger speaker: see Haygens-principle. Fact is that: Japanese engineers designed here 3.5" speaker.
Otherwise I was just giving well-intentioned advice based on my own measurements and experience. Let everyone decide for themselves what they need. Whatever speaker you install will be better than the factory one.

You make a valid point, I was unable to understand what you meant about the grill until you added the picture which shows the diameter of the opening is 3"
Now it makes sense about your comments on the 4" speaker.
The OEM is 83dB sensitivity and is 4 ohm based on what I've read.... I don't want to select a speaker that will not be close to the specs of the OEM unit as it needs to also blend w the door speaker.....
Thanks for the clarification

Érvényes álláspontod van, nem tudtam megérteni, mire gondoltál a grillre, amíg nem adtad hozzá azt a képet, amelyen a nyílás átmérője 3"
Most érthető a 4 " hangszóró.
Az OEM érzékenysége 83 dB és 4 ohm az olvasottak alapján... Nem akarok olyan hangszórót választani, ami nem lesz közel az OEM egység specifikációihoz, mivel az ajtóhangszóróval is keverednie kell. .....
Köszönöm a felvilágosítást
OK.
Compared to 83, 86 dB is a significant difference as if you hooked a double power amplifier. I'm afraid that it would tilt the sound of high tones overall.
Here is the electrolytic capacitor, but we are not able to find its actual rating????
Someone on the "Subwoofer" thread says the dash speakers are 83 db, sensitivity but where did that number come from? what is the Factory spec for Efficiency from Pioneer Electronics???
Does anyone know? and what is the source of the Sensitivity specification ?
OK, looks like I have confirmed from tdlnfm that the sensitivity of the OEM dash speakers are indeed 83 dB based on his appropriately acquired measurements .

Buttom of speaker grill
Hi tdlnfm - Any chance you know whether the ML system used the same 3” size speaker grill trim? Doesn’t look like there’s any extra space there, so it’s probably the same, but wanted to confirm if possible 🤔

My understanding is that both the dash corner speakers and grilles are the same in ML and non-ML systems.
