I got an email from Lexus that my second fob will come in July, I bought 450h+m in Jan 2023.

When you took delivery of your new Lexus, you were provided with one Smart Key and a second mechanical key, instead of two Smart Keys. This was due to the global semi-conductor shortage impacting certain microchips. Unfortunately, these shortages are still impacting the delivery of a second Smart Key.

Currently, we expect to be able to provide you with your second key in July 2023. We will notify you by first class mail when your second Smart Key is available, with information on how to obtain your key from your dealer.

ridiculous. They should offer digital keys temporarily until it’s resolved.

I had the same question. But someone said the digital keys are hardware based.

I've contacted Lexus Canada and they told me that's something came from the manufacturing and cannot be enabled from their side. And was told to contact the sales manager at the dealership. But dealership does not even bother to reply my request.

Digital key is that...digital. You need a smart phone and the Lexus app. Download the digital key to the phone and install it.

The credit card key is physical, but for me it's way too thick to put in my wallet so I don't use that.

Agree. My wife is carrying that to use as it fits in her purse better than my money clip. They could give 2 fobs and scrape the credit card key. That would solve the problem if they don't have enough chips. But that's my opinion.

Digital keys are based on different hardware WITHIN the vehicle. On the outside, yea, its just some software on your phone. Your phone communicates with the car via Bluetooth, but your smartfobs communicate with the vehicle on a separate frequency and talking to a different subsystem within the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, the digital key support is not just listening to a BT signal, it also has to support the authentication, addition, and removal of keys communicating via the DCM to the mothership.

The credit card keys are using a (somewhat) different chipset, so its not easily transplantable into a regular fob. No buttons for one, so no long range radios to support them, only the short range non-interactive ones for when you touch the door handles, press engine buttons, or kicking at your rear bumper.

Default Nope

My dealership won't pay for another place to make/ program one! I was in for first service last month and talked at length about it. They'd rather pay for the tow no matter how far you may be. Then expedite the second key. Then you're stuck with one keyagain. They said it's happened, of course. It's insane to spend 65 grand on a car and expect to wait 9 months for a second key. I was told a couple of months when I purchased my RX 350h in April.

If they have one you like. Buy one. Or tell the manager to front it to you. And they can keep the one Lexus sends in a couple months.

Like I said in a few postings. The dealership sells keys all day long. Just because the factory doesn't have one to give you on delivery. Doesn't mean you cant get another key.

The dealership can get keys that work. And can give one to you. Be it al old style FOB. Or a Smart Credit Card one. Or even one of the old style keys

If the dealership won't provide you with a second key upon delivery. Walk out the door with your money. They won't let your 70K walk out the door over a 200 hundred dollar key

Don't bet on that. Dealers have gotten quite arrogant these days making you feel like you're lucky just to be allowed in. It was not that long ago where the sales folks or managers would grovel to make a sale but these days it is "don't let the door hit you on the way out".

Was just looking at my Lexus App and saw there was a Service Campaign entry. So I went to view it. Here is what I found:

I've been waiting for a letter notifying me my FOB was being sent or something about obtaining my second FOB. So I guess I'll contact my Dealer and see what he says.

Hope this helps others.
