Hello, just joined this forum. Planning to buy NX but having hard time finding one with glazed caramel interior. (most of the color filters on cargurus, carmax just have brown/tan that pick up all kinds of colors). Is there some way I can find out which color interior from the vin ? Which characters/letters starting from which position indicate glazed caramel ? Thanks

Be aware that many companies, Toyota and Lexus as well, may have more than one “name” for a particular paint and/or trim code. As an example I found about three different names for the trim code on my ES (LB01). The “name” is a marketing gimmick more than a hard definition and may change from year to year. Bet bet would be to call a Lexus parts counter and get the code you want.
I was not able to decode it using sample vins from online. It looks like the vin is used as an ID (key) to look up info from some database ..In lexus technical parlance glazed caramel is called "Ocher dark film". I will ask lexus service dept and see if I get more info.

Try this website for VIN... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/vindecoder.php.
You appear correct that color and trim are not part of the VIN but that you need the color code from the driver door jamb. You can get the trim codes if you have a VIN however.

If you register on the Lexus Drivers website you can add the VIN and it will give you all the options along with the service history if it's used.
Thanks for all the responses. In my search for a loaded nx with caramel interior i was hoping I could tell the interior trim just by looking at the vin but as you said it is a separate code in the door jamb. These car sales sites are so lame Even the official lexus cpo site does not let me search more than 200 miles around a zip code.. like a nationwide search
