Over the past few days I have noticed my 93 LS making a whining noise. Kind of like turbo spooling up or like engine noise though the radio. The noise gets louder the more I accelerate. I can hear it inside the car and outside when my friend drove it. Having really changed anything except PVC value, oil change and drain/fill trans fluid? Car runs fine just annoying sound. Like a jet on take off. Maybe something in the air to intake? I noticed that little electrical box on the air intake but don't know if that could be what it is since I don't know what that box does. Air filter was changed couple hundred miles ago so its clean.
i had have the car make the sound in front of the mechanic for them to lacote the spot and then go in and llok for the loose part. my suggestion is to do that. I had it done becuase i use my car for business and couldn't have an embarrising noise like that coming from my car.
I was able to get the noise to work really loud 2-3,000 rpm. in park. with heay throttle. So during normal driving the sound would only come when you pressed the gas just right. The clutch had become worn internally. it rotates on a rod i assume( not a mechanic here folks, but i pay for one) and wasa wobbling instead of a true rotation. the sound for me was like a flute or bird call. FREAKY
My stereo equip hasn't come in, so its not that. The alt is acting weird (dim lights when i hit brakes, vic versa) but I didn't now it could make a noise like that?
The whinning noise does increase when the rpms increase. Just take it by your lexus dealer and ask them to listen to the car they will usually do it free of charge.
when i had an sc300 it did the same thing, couldnt figure it out for nothing, turned out that it was my clutch fan. the fan stays on all the time and as the engine gets hotter there is a circuler coil witch expands in the middle of the fan that cause the fan to spin faster to cool the engine. that is known to go bad and cause an embarising squilling noise. just buy the clutch for the fan from the dealer and remove the fan and replace the clutch in the middle if fan. its not expensive and not hard at all. and let me know if I saved the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
