First Oil Change
2002 RX300 Silver/Black. Only 900 miles on it but anticipating first oil change. I want to go with synthetic. Will Lexus do a synthetic change on the first oil change? This is the free change but hoping I could just pay the difference for the Mobil One.
Does conventional oil need to be flushed from the engine before changing to synthetic?
Thanks. This is my first post. Really like this site.

My local Lexus dealer charges more for conventional oil than Costco charges for Mobil1 synthetic. Ahh yes, the benefits of owning a Lexus. We get the "privilege" of paying a Lexus markup on dealer service.
Why so hurried on your first oil change? I would follow the recommendations in the service manual that came with your car.

I have been exclusively using Mobil One in my cars for over twenty years. At the mileage recommended for the first oil change I simply put in Mobil One. Never noticed a problem not flushing out the original fossil oil.
I have never had a car that burns oil. I average about 7,000 miles between oil changes and rarely have to add oil. I typically accumulate well over 100,000 miles before I trade. I also believe in a rigorous break-in period (no full throttle in first 1000 miles and severly limit max rpm for first 100 miles). To make sure I can do this I will not accept a car from the dealer if it has more than 10 miles on the odometer. The dealers hate this but it simply means I wait for a car to be delivered and do not accept one that has been abused on test drives. In other words, I believe Mobile One and a proper break-in will keep the engine from using oil.

Synthetic oils these days are fully compatible with conventional oils. So no need to flush.
RhoXS - haha, I know what you mean. When I went on a test drive at one dealer, the salesman floored it and then encouraged me to do the same. Depends on where you go and the roads around the dealership. At another dealer, I was made to drive like a granny on a pre-determined route that was full of traffic.

I see that numerous cars are being delivered with Mobil One so I guess the old story about it delaying break-in is out the window.
Regarding break-in; my 98 GS400 stipulated nothing over 50 mph for the first 1000 miles, no full throttle etc. I just ordered an 03 LS and hope the requirements arn't quite as stringent. I wonder how many people actually do this? I would think that avoiding full throttle and varying speed below say, 70 mph should be adequate. Any thoughts on this?
