Default sc300 oil change

I just recently picked up a 1993 sc300 5spd with 170 000 and im going to do an oil change soon, so far it seems like he maintained the car well mechanicly, motor clean and quiet fresh oil good timing belt ect, outside is a different story lol, anyways ive had the car for about a month and it doesnt seem to consume oil which is great, ok so i am thinking about running mobil1 fully synthetic 15w-50, i use it in my moms turbo volvo s70 with 100 000 and it really is a great oil, but im not sure if it would be safe to swich oil with that many miles, though the oil would be pretty thick and oil consuption is usuallly the problem after swithing to syn. opinions?

I wouldn't recommend to switching to a thick oil at all... It puts more stress on the oil pump, and although oil pressure raises slightly, not as much oil gets to the bearings... I have 195K on mine and run 10W30. I would run 5w30 but it never gets cold here really...

thats what I run... its readily available, reasonably priced ($25 / jug), and I've not had one bad experience while running it...

swittching oil is fine, no damge can be caused so long as the engine is running. However, damage occurs when you shift from neutral to Drive while the car is going at speed. This causes the gearing AND engine some stress as it attempts to compensate for your instruction i.e. travelling 80k then slamming it into 1st 2nd 3rd or Drive.

Purolator filters are good. I've used plenty and have never had a bad experience with them. One of the higher quality filters you can buy at your local auto-part stores
