Ok, my car has no A/C filter in the cabin....and I got quoted $90 to buy a pair at my local Lexus dealer. At the moment I dont feel like dishing out that much for just a filter, so how important is this filter and does it affect anything? I'm already buying a Transmission Mount for $79. Should I just get the A/C filter?
My understanding is that they filter the air after the blower so there isn't any potential damage to your AC system, just reduces dust, pollen, etc out of the interior.
do a search for how dirty these air filters get and think about whether or not you want that stuff going through your a/c system.
as far as the year and the mileage of the vehicle - i've seen some great looking and well kept 93 SCs out there that the owners wouldn't even think about running w/o a a/c filter.
if you don't care about it - don't worry about it but if you want to keep the car appearance and smell and overall quality up - get it. you don't have to buy a new one - just make one using a house filter. they're like 6 bucks.
do a search for DIY air filter and you'll see what i mean.
Problem is, he could make his own, but the 93 Scs never came with the cabin filters. So he would have to buy it atleast once. I ran without one for over 8 years! (didn't even know I had a place for it).
My suggestion, buy it from Sewell lexus (good price BTW) and then every couple of years, just change the filter elements yourself by following the DIY above. you need the plastic frame atleast from the OEM filter.

exactly.. i was thinking about buying one, but then I thought to myself "what's the point if I get it now if this car has been running for 13 years without one?" when I first got the car I was doing the things from planetsoarer, and one of those was clean the A/C filter only to realize when I took the thing off nothing was even in there.
