Cool how many miles between oil changes?

I took my 99 gs400 to dealer for oil change yesterday. They put a sticker on car to change again in 5000 miles. Does this seem like to long to you guys? I use dino oil and have always changed at 3000 miles.

This has probably been discussed a million times already. So i'm sorry if it is old stuff.

By the way my dealer charged me $62 and washed my car by hand on top of it. Plus they have great doughnuts. They took about an hour to change oil and wash car.

Thanks for your input.

personally I change my oil every 5-6 thousand miles, and it has 62k miles on it, runs Flawlessly. I use a mobil 1 tri-cynthetic. Personally I think once every 3 thousand miles is a lil over board but to each there own.

In the manual is say s either a 5K or 7500K mile interval... I am on the 7500K and use Mobil 1 fully synthetic.

I used to take my car into Toyota for oil changes every 5K miles, using their dino oil and filter. Now I change my own oil myself, still every 5K miles, but with Mobil-1 10W-30 SuperSyn oil and Toyota filter.

Although ES's are known to be suspect of oil sludges underneath the valve cover due to irregular oil change intervals, I've never had problems with oil changes on my car.

I change my oil every 4500-5000 miles using mobil 1 fully synthetic oil w/ mobil 1 oil filter. Still runs strong and very quiet so far.

My dealer recommends 5k between oil changes... and ive seen customers come through with close to 10k between oil changes, and the oil doesnt look that horrible, however, i wouldnt recommend going 10k. The reason for the longer intervals is because the tolerances inside lexus engines is much tighter than the old school small block chevy, which required 3k oil changes. Contamination is why we change our oil, and usually the main contamination is blow-by. With tighter tolerances, and basically a better built engine, this is reduced.. so 5k-7.5k oil change intervals can be used.

Nobody has mentioned max time interval between oil changes. Not everybody is doing 10,000 miles/year. I'd change oil at 6 month intervals regardless, if you haven't gone the milage at that point.

You are correct, we recommend oil changes at least twice a year to prevent sludge and moisture buildup.

Unless you are in the severe I would go by the manual as a "guide" if using dino oil. Synthetics can and do go longer.

So far I am in the lead with over 12K miles on oil and 2 filters. Oil tests just fine. Pretty good.

I will say this, as I have stated time and time again, post some oil tests.
