Default power steering problem

I remember that I post the problem here yesterday, but I can't find it anymore.

I bought a 1990 es250 six weeks ago. It run good that time. The steering is very light. I didn't drive it untill tomorrow. Of couse the battery is discharged and I jump start the car. It seems that there is no power steering or even worse. It is very hard to turn the wheel at low speed. When I turn the wheel, there is some noise and smells come under the hood. I searched the forum and did find some lexus power steering problems. I want to know if electricity malfunction due to the discharged battery caused the problem. And I really want to know where is the steering rack located in my es250?

Thanks a lot

You may have a big leak at your power steering pump. It's located on the passenger side of the engine toward the firewall. I think the guy may feel up with the PS fluid before sell it to you.

Thank you for your reply. I filled it with ATF fluid. It leaks quickly and power steering works again. I will check where is leaking tomorrow. And if it is pump, how much to repair it?

I had this problem cheched by a mechanic. He told me that the high presure line is leaking. The hose is priced at $100. But they want to charge 5 hours labor. Is it reasonable?

Thanks

I figured out which hose is leaking. It's the hose to gear, not the hose from pump. I got the hose from autozone for $37. But I tried several shops, they all ask $130 to $200 to change it. Is it really a hard work? If not, I will try to do it myself?

Thank you very much.

Another problem. Because the es250 is based on camry v6 and the pressure hose from pump are same for these two model, I bought a hose for 88 camry v6. I tried to replace it myself today. It seems that I can do it in 30m mins. But I find the connection to the rack is not the same one although the lengh and the other side are same. Now the problem is where I can get the hose. I searched the internet and get nothing. Can anyone help me?

Thanks
