Default Messed Up Power Steering!!

Hey everybody how's it going?

I need help pinpointing my problem.... I dont know whether its the ECU thats messed up or my power steering pump.

For the past year I have been having the problem where my power steering turns on and off. Sometimes its working amazingly, and then once in a while it just becomes really hard to steer.

But now my I have lost my power steering completely!!! Yet sometimes it still feels looser but not how it used to be when I first bought it.

My girlfriend keeps thinking I have to take a crap whenever I'm grunting trying to turn the wheel~~~

Help me out please! thanks

Have you check the condition of the pump, hoses and is there a noise when you turn the steering wheel? What have you done so far on trouble shoot this?

I have flushed the power steering fluid myself and by the dealer.

Also the day i lost it completely, i started smelling this burning smell... kinda like what old transmission fluid smells like.

But, as of now... my power steering is back to normal and working okay. My father told me that usually you can see something moving when the car is on through the fill hole.

He did something crazy and put some Heet Gas-line Antifreeze in the power steering fluid reservoir and all of a sudden... voila!!

My dad said some BS in my Gujarati (Indian) language... but i failed to understand his rationale... does this make sense to anyone?

Well, I would say your Dad found the problem or that it was coincidental.

I have a concern about adding gas line antifreeze to the power stearing fluid. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that stuff flamable?

If it did fix the problem it's only temporary and I wouldn't use it as nothing more than a troubleshooting tool. It's time to have the PS pump replaced. Get a rebuilt. New ones are expensive.

Also, be sure you drain and flush your PS fluid. I'd fluch it twice because it's now contaminated with that gas additive.

From what you posted - I would say that you must of had a minor blockage of some kind in the system.... by adding the gas line antifreeze ( which is usually alcohol based as in methyl hydrate ) this either thinned the fluid which pushed past the blockage or dissolved whatever was blocking the system...

I am not sure that the fix is just temporary - it could be fixed for real or it might have just restirrred up whatever gunk was causing the problem - only to settle and re-offend later??????

Either way another flush might be prudent although I would think that the gas line antifreeze will eventually evaporate from the system.. Don't believe that it will mix with and contaminate the oil....

Gotta admit I have never heard of that fix before.. What did your Dad actually say anyways - your best translation at any rate....
