Timing belt and water pump change should be done every 90K miles, so you're OK until roughly 154K on the odometer.

Every 60K miles is kind of too soon. Also I have looked online and many state "no interval is specified by the manufacture" But many Lexus and Toyota say 90K for the ES.

Hey if you want your water pump to blow and have your car overheat and blow up, 90k works. STick with 60k.

water pump to blow! I called 3 dealers and they stated 90% of the time the water pump is fine and there is no need the install new on. So unless you like giving money to Lexus, some might to make them feel good, I will stick with the 90K.

Also water pumps do not "just blow", they leak first. In all the years driving only my Ford mustang started a minor leak at 78K miles and at 9-years.

70-90k is a good rule of thumb to change your timing belt. As for your water pump, if it's not leaking, theres no need to change it.

I see from your profile that your es300 is a 1992, so its probably 60k. Mines is a 98 es300, and that states 90k for severe service. Anyone know for sure for a 1992?

Cool

'92-'93 3vz-feis a non interferance engine. (most Toyota engines are)

If the timing belt breaks the ecu just puts the car in limp mode. 90% there is no even minor damage.

Hey all -

I'm not in here much, so forgive me for my ignorance. But, I've been searching to see what the general consensus is on the price of a T-Belt change for a 98 ES300. Ours just hit 93k and I'm thinkin we'd better get that done. I'm assuming it's something that can be done at Toyota, correct? After all, it is the same motor as the camry. . . Thanks for any insight. You all have a great car!

You can buy that same timing belt part at your local Toyota dealer. Just make sure you specify 3VZ-FE timing belt. Shouldnt cost you more than $40 for that part alone. It would also be a good idea to get the other belts changed as well.

... And those other parts to be purchased with the timing belt are:

- L timing idler pulley ($60)
- R timing idler pulley ($63)
- Timing belt tensioner ($43)

92-93 used the 3VZ-FE engine. McElligott, does your owner's manual specify 60K intervals?
94-98 used a 1MZ-FE that is non-interference. My '96 owner's manual recommends 90K intervals.
99 and up (1MZ-FE 99-03, 3MZ-FE '04) have VVT-i and are interference engines, meaning if the belt snaps bad things will happen
