I bought my 2025 NX250 on 6/29/2024. The dealer said absolutely nothing about the fob issue, it wasn't listed on the paperwork signed with purchase as a "missing item". Nope, we didn't find out until they handed us one fob and pointed to a sticker on the window indicating the 2nd fob was not there due to fob shortage. We were extremely angry, not sure I'd have gone thru with the purchase had I know there's only one fob at delivery. When we travel, we always carry 2 fobs,. Still waiting for fob #2.
After the Earthquake/Tsunami of 2011 near Japan there was a disruption of key fob suppliers.
Lexus engaged an alternate supplier, and the fobs appeared identical to all former units.
While they worked OK when used 1 on 1 as most owners would do, an interesting unintended
consequence developed. At the dealership is it common to gather a box of fobs to rearrange
the parking lot display or when snow plowing. When a newly issued fob was within range it
apparently transmitted an interference signal and we were getting a lot of "key not found" error
messages on the dash when attempting to start car that we really had the key for. A couple of
guests had gotten a new car with the substitute style and would carry it with their older Lexus fob
and get that spurious message (and a no start condition!)
Exact same thing happened to us. Sneaky as hell. To add insult, last month when I was complaining to my sales rep about not receiving the second FOB yet she quickly pointed out that Lexus the manufacturer owed me the FOB, not the dealership.
