Default Lx 600 vs. Gx 550

I wanted to start this thread to get some feed back from current LX owners in comparing the LX 600 to the new GX 550. I currently own the LX 600 F Sport and love it. I switched the wheels and tires to 18 inch lexus black wheels and installed BF GOODRICH KO2 Tires on the LX and I find it very off road capable and really good in deep snow unplowed, 12-14 inches. And I have found that with the AHC I gain great approach and departure angles as well, and when I measure the ground clearance at the rear Diff. I am getting 9-9.5 inches, which is better than the GX 550 and better than the advertised 8 inches. The LX also drives great on pavement.

I have driven the new GX and the LC First edition, and I really liked them both, but I could not see either of them being better than the LX. In my opinion the LX is built better, has better interior materials, better fit and finish, and the exterior seems better built and bolted together as well.

Alot of the social media reviewers trash the LX, but love the GX. Is there something I am missing ?

They don’t have the funds available for an LX or want a specialty toy.

I already have a tricked out truck and wanted something more muted so I didn’t consider the GX.

I looked at both too and the LX has better fit and finish.

One thing unique about the Fsport is world wide this is the only one with the rear Torsen. Really works better for my use, not going rock crawling and is more useable compared to a locker. I have a ranch and construction company so yes it gets used. And I would much rather have a Torsen or Trutrac in my F250 than the Elocker, so speaking from experience.

I have not driven the new GX550 but I’ve test driven the LX600 a couple times and checked out the new Gx500. Just on materials and fit, the LX is much more desirable to me. With all the craziness of mark ups on the GX right now, it’s not that much cheaper than LX. LX are much more available and some discount can be had with them.

In April 2024 my wife and I looked seriously at the new GX. We drove both a GX and LX the same afternoon at our local Lexus dealer. The LX was and is head and shoulders above the GX in terms of fit and finish, ride quality, luxury, and quality of build and components.

Honestly, it felt to us that you could basically option the hell out of a 4Runner and almost get the equivalent of a GX.

It is going to be intereseting to see how Toyota does with Land Cruiser sales given this platform. Will buyers care that the LC is not the real "rest of world" LC platform?

I’m on my 5th GX, MY’s 10 14,18,20 & now a new 23. Non leased, all owned…..I was excited about the new GX until I test drove it. Honestly, it should be branded a Toyota and not a Lexus. The AC vents are horrible….if you live in a warmer climate then forget about having cold air hitting your face. The vents are too low….there are no vents in the rear cargo area anymore, it’s like a furnace. Way too much plastic everywhere…..like hard plastic, scratches easily. The LX is in another league. I’ll be purchasing an LX before next summer. My wife bought a new 24RX and it’s the same with the front ac vents. The screen has become so large they can’t fit ac vents in the normal areas. Stick to the LX.

I have to agree 100 percent with the 2 previous quotes. I own a 2023 LX 600 and I have driven both the new GX and the new LC and in my opinion the LX is just built to a higher quality standard and the materials fit and finish are on a different level, both inside and outside.

as far as off roading goes, put 18 inch wheels and tires on the LX, BF Goodrich KO2’s and it becomes just as off road capable as the GX, actually more so because of the AHC. The only off road tools you are giving up are the rear locker, which to be honest I have used on my tundra very little, and the EKDSS if I said that right.

if you can not justify the $ 35,000.00 price difference there are some lightly used LX’s available that can save you $ 10,000.00.

I like the Fsport Torsen differential specifically as it is much more handy. I rarely use the selectable locker in my Ford trucks.

Knowing that these preowned are likely in the engine recall, would you still go for them?

It was a 4-5 month time of production? So not all of them. Like 4,000 globally?

Only issues I have seen on older used LX and LC are salt/rust issues. The rest is standard used car inspection stuff.
