Default A/C Blowing Hot Air

My a/c is blowing hot air fellas. It appears there is freon in the system, by the compressor is not turning on. A few weeks ago turned on the a/c, but it was not blowing cold, it appeared it was blowing cool air. Turned of the climate control then turned it back on, then it started to work okay, nice and cripsy cold air. Last night same thing happend, but this time no dice. I check the fuse (#16 on the driver side lower fuse box) the fuse is okay.

Any ideas on what it may be before I head off to the dealer to have diagnosed at $140.00 per hour!!!

Thanks for any input you guys may have!!!!!

ok, i have to ask this since i've seen this happen many times. Are you sure the AC button has been pressed?

Because if the compressor is not turning on, the AC button will usually blink. If indeed its not the button, run an AC diag and retrieve the code.

Is the AC light blinking when this happens?

There are two set of instructions for running the diag, depending on whether you have NAV or not. Try running the appropriate one and see what code it throws back.

The front defroster light is blinking. I have nav & it is a UL if that helps. Would you happen to know the two procedures.

Once again, Thanks for your help!!!

I had a similar thing happen to me about 4 months ago. The a/c would be fine for a while and then not work. Eventually the compressor wouldn't kick on at all. I thought it might be the freon but took it in and said that wasn't the case but it did have a few codes. Took it to a Toyota dealer and they found out it was the high pressure switch/valve. It had malfunctioned and was telling the system that there was too much pressure which didn't allow the compressor to kick on. Cost about $550 and took them a couple days to fix because they had to order the part.

Thanks Boomer01, but I took it to the dealer today and I too have the same problem you did. They too also will need it a couple of days, part not in stock. And the cost for mine is going to be $517.00 (tax included). I guess its a common issue. Other than that the car is perfect.

Decided to skip on the dealer changing the pressure switch and had one of my "honda" techs take care of it. And boy I'm glad I did. Paid the dealer the diagnostic charge ($140.00) and bought the part ($96.70). Had my guy evacuate the system, replace the switch, recharge the system, now every this is "cool". Took him all of about 1/2 an hour and the only real work he had to do was "screw out the old sensor & screw in the new sensor. The a/c machine evacuate & recharged system. Dealer wanted $517 (including tax) to do that. Thats borderline criminal, but hey, as they say "its what & who you know".

So much did your Honda guy charge for the labor and refrigerant refill? You already paid $237, so presume you paid less than $270 for your Honda guy.

I had a similar problem and thought it was the pressure switch. Bought the part for $65 from Sewell and had the Toyota dealer swap it and recharge for a little over a hundred bucks. Didn't fix the problem though. Turns out the compressor was bad, it would lock up and fail to engage for the first ten minutes or so of driving. This didn't happen every time I got in the car, sometimes it worked sometimes it wouldn't. If I removed some refrigerant from the system then it would work better, maybe due to less pressure in the system, I don't know. Got a new Denso compressor on eBay for $325 and had my indie mechanic replace it and never had a problem since.
