Just had the exact problem no A/C no compressor. The switch we are talking about is right i n inside the hood. Open the hood and on the very front right side you will see a couple wires going into a black switch. Thats usually the problem The toyota dealer in Bradford Pa did mine with diag, new freon and switch for 330 let me see if I can find the part number,

The part retails for 97 bucks but you can find it online for 77

Do you need to just change the part (DIY) or there is more to this fix that a mechanic needs to do?

I just went out to the car and looked at it. It appears to be a regular plug in type sensor.. from what I can tell it should be a DIY. Check the front right of the radiator you cant miss it the sensor has the wires coming right out of the top of it ,,next to a small sight glass. Good luck.

This one? I guess there will be fluid in those pipes so if I remove the switch might start flowing out.

not sure if this will help, but i noticed the same thing in my car today. What i did is i had the "mode" set to blow on your face and your feet. The air was hot. I pushed "AUTO" and it made the mode change to just blow air on your face/ torso. But the air was ice cold. Maybe this could help? or maybe mine had a broken component as well?

That's it. I had it done at a dealer so I don't know. If you look up the part you might be able to tell from the picture if its just a push in plug. Sorry I can't help you more. Just did some reading on the switch. You do have to depressurize the system to change the switch

nm. I see from one of the posts above... "evacuate the system, replace the switch, recharge the system". Doesn;t look like a DIY but looks pretty generic to be done by any mechanic or A/C shop.

Well guys, I have fooled with my A/C all day - I think my pressure switch is bad as well.
Anyway, I found an aftermarket part for $45 on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150931342753...84.m1423.l2649

I'll let you know if this was successful or not. Going to have a local shop do the drain / refill.

Anyone who wants to wait until next week I will report back in. Would love to get out of this for $45 instead of $507 from the dealer.

I saw that ebay part as well but I doubt that it is genuine lexus part. Denso may be the OEM manufacturer for that part but this specific part may not be build directly for Lexus/Toyota as a genuine part.
Also the seller hasn;t listed LS430 in the vehicle list.

Just to give you a comparison...OEM lexus Serpentine belt costs about $40-$50 but Bando belt can be had for $20. Bando may be the OEM manufacturer but the part may not be built to the Lexus specs.
See here about the Bando belt that is mentioned as OEM quality but multiple reviewers reported failures well before expected life from an OEM quality item.

This is my theory. Let us know how it goes and if it works I may follow the same route.

I would be willing to bet 99% of the time, it's the exact same, only the outside box is different.

It would almost be more money and headaches for the same company to build an entirely different line of the same part, but one had tighter tolerances than the other. A manufacturer would rather just have one line of consistent quality where it can sell to all sorts of different outlets and know it's not going to be an issue. Usually the warranty through the reseller is the difference, and that's why the price is usually quite a bit more.

My bigger concern would be, is the Ebay seller actually selling real, new Denso parts? I've had a situation in the past where I was almost certain someone put a generic part in a name brand box.

Well, 2 things - 1. There's a 30 day return policy, and I can compare it to the original once it arrives.

Is Part No. 88719-40020 only up till 2003? Is there another part for 2004 and beyond?
Link below shows compatibility from 2000 to 2003.

http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/l...719-40020.html
Where can I check for the exact OEM part number on my car (apart from trying to read it on the part itself and I don;t see it).
