This seems to be another old thread where the solution was never posted. But imho knowing zero about auto AC and never owning a car that had one that went bad (even the 1998 is still ice cold), wouldn't it be similar to home HVAC? The first thing a tech does is to connect gauges to compare the high and low sides. In a home that's at the condenser, but I've seen in all the cars where these are near the firewall somewhere. I can't see how cars can be any different. That's always step #1. This determines a lot. Then, they move on to the TXV, blah blah blah. Seems like at least at the tail end of this thread it skipped to the last potential steps without even doing the basic first. jmo.

Yes it's just a switch with wires on one end and screws into... WHAT? The AC line. It reads pressure of freon. If you unscrew it you'll get a face full of freon. DO NOT REMOVE!!!
I know this is an old friend hey why didn't somebody tell his guy not to do that?
