Default Heads-Up Display-Outside temp

I just picked up my new LS 500 Sport a few days ago and am loving it. My problem is with customization of the heads-up display and the dealer has not been helpful. The owner’s manual on page 83 has a picture describing the components of the display. The picture shows outside temp-(68 F). I can get everything except outside temp. I need help to display Outside temp.

Congratulations! Please do Post some pictures of the car.
I just read the Owners manual. It mentions that you have to be above 12 MPH for the temperature to be displayed on the HUD. I don't think there is any settings related to the outside Temperature, As it should always be displayed.

This is one of half-a-dozen bugs in the electronics systems I've come across so far. Mine shows the temp. when I start the car, then it disappears after about 10 seconds and never comes on again, regardless of speed or outside temperature.

I'm still trying to find out how/where to go about reporting these bugs to the Lexus development team.

So far, my experience with Lexus dealership "technology specialists" has amounted to 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. They don't really know the features of the car, or for that matter, technology in general. About the only thing they are good for is pairing a phone to the car or programming the garage door remote. After 2 hours with two different specialists, and several days of them "researching" the issues I pointed out to them, their answer was "We had technology specialists at other dealerships test the same thing on their LS's and they behaved the same way, so the car is working normally." They don't seem to even understand the concept of software or a bug.

Lexus really needs to step up their game when it comes to technology support.

When I do find a link or email address that can be used to report these issues to the product management team, or better yet, the development team, I will post it here for all to use.

Thanks for sharing your similar experiences with the technology 'specialists'. You are right on. The first issue was the beeps in reverse. They had no clue, only the service foreman who has been with Lexus for ages knew how to silence using the cars computer. I insisted that they could be silenced since I had same experience with my LC 500. Those reverse beeps are a dumb idea in my opinion since they may interfere with safety beeps such as cross traffic, etc.
The next issue with the so called expert had to do with the ECO display. I told her that I did not want to ever see eco in speedometer display. I was told that the only way to not see it was to drive conservatively. I did not spend over 100K to worry about how hard I step on the gas. The answer is right in the customization section of the manual and is done by owner.
Then I did not see gear info nor audio info in heads up. They had no clue. I finally figured it out myself. The gear indicator displays only when you use the paddle shifters which is neat. The radio station info only displays when you can the channels via the steering wheel control. Again a nice feature. I do not know what they teach them in tech school. And my tech had a know it all attitude as well.
Anyway, still no temp display and no solution. You are correct that it must be a bug.

I just sent an email to Lexus reporting problem. Let's see if they come up with a solution.

I realize that you referred to the Owners Manual. I was only trying to Help by pointing out that the the car needs to be driven. I saw another LS500 owner who also asked the same question recently, so I am sure this is a software bug. Best way to get this fixed is by contacting Lexus, which you have already done. Hope this gets resolved soon.

My dealership is working on it. They found that the same happens with the LS500 in the showroom. The district trouble shooter is aware of the problem and hopefully he can get to the right people to make them aware and solve the problem. I can see no way that it is supposed to only work for seconds start up.

Update: I just got a call back from a supposedly high level tech specialist who claimed to have conferred with the engineers about our temp problem. His BS explanation was that it was intended to just display for a few seconds on start up for safety reasons as to not clutter the display with too much distracting information. He also stated that no where in the manual does it state that the temp will be constantly displayed. My questions: Pg. 83 D Outside display area should have had the following attached "(for 5-10 seconds only on start up of vehicle). On Pg. 84 "In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be displayed, or the display may take longer than normal to change:
• When stopped, or driving at low speeds(less than 12 mph [20 km/h])
• When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/exit of a garage, tunnel, etc.)" 
Using elementary deductive reasoning--In order for it to stop displaying at slow speeds implies that it was displaying at higher speeds! If it stops displaying going through a tunnel, it implies that it was displaying before entering the tunnel.
I have owned 4 LS and 2 other Lexus vehicles and never has one not been able to do what the manual says.
Hopefully, we have some interference or a glitch or software issue. I hate to think that there is a design flaw in the HUD that got by them and that is only correctible by replacing the entire HUD.
I'd like to talk to the people who wrote the manual.
It will be interesting to see how future cars built a few months down the road and even in 2019 perform in relation to HUD and temp.
All I want is for a 100K vehicle to do what the manual says.

Hard to believe the technical folks are giving you the run around! It's a software issue not hardware. Hopefully they fix it. I agree that this display should work as described, whether it's a 30K or 100K vehicle.

Runner, can you please post a few pics inside and out of your car? Do you have the kiriko glass panels? Those are cool

As a software engineer for the last 32 years, allow me to translate that response for you:

"Uh, yeah, that's a bug but we're not going to admit it because we have too many other issues to deal with right now."

I imagine it will be fixed eventually, probably with the release of the 2019 model.

Will post pics in a few days after laser jammers, dash cam, etc installed. Do not have Kiriko glass panels I guess maybe because it is an F Sport. Sticker was 102k, has a lot of extras but no glass panels.
