2012 ls 460 43k miles hoping to get advice on a few issues:
when the car is off and you step on the brake pedal air noises can be heard and in reverse a clunking noise can be heard as well does anyone know what this could be
The ABS pump gets powered up when you open the car, as far as I am aware. The brakes will respond when you press the pedal even if the car is not running. I am not sure what you mean by air noises.
Clunking in reverse can be related to many things - mounts, control arms, shafts. It will required more troubleshooting.
A vehicle with such low mileage should not have issues if all maintenance was done - fluids were changed based on time rather then mileage limits For instance, you should have the brake fluid replaced a number of times.

Thank you for the information regarding ABS pump and further troubleshooting on the clunking in reverse.
The clicking sound in reverse sounds like metal coming from my front passenger wheel well (by my best estimated guess)
I do not believe the previous owner maintained this car as he/she should have but I am looking to restore everything within reason back to factory agreed that with such low mileage I shouldn’t need so much work done the car was not maintained
Have a shop do a visual inspection with the car on a lift for that clunk in reverse. Then post here with what the shop tells you.
swfla your response is much appreciated as always
one more thing to note: when in drive and lightly pressing on the brake pedal a metal click can be heard (sounds as if the metal click is the pad engaging with the rotor?)
Is it AWD or RWD? To me, clunking looks like a control arm issue.
RWD good advice on the control arms getting those replaced first (front)
Is it appropriate to ask simple questions on the forums to save money vs paying for a mechanic do these two pictures provide enough information to tell if brake pads are due
Your brakes pads do not require replacement at this point.
That is what this forum is for - share knowledge and save some money.
Please, do not hurry into replacing the arms - it is expensive. Make sure control arms are causing the issue.
Update: The rear shocks match AWD but my LS is RWD. The two rear shocks have about 500 miles on them if anyone wants them. This explains the horrible ride quality.

Never seen this before... enlighten me on how it rides...?

Some how the shop was able to install AWD rear shocks onto 2012 RWD. The rear is very bouncy feels uneven over large dips in the road and ride quality feels like 2002 camry. new rwd shocks are on the way so these awd shocks will need a new home

Very odd... make sure they didn't damage the vehicle mounts for the rears...
