Synthetic oil change
After much ado and waiting for a 'right moment' Amsoil 0W20 signature is in my boy. I *INSTALLED* it! (still rofling at incorrect use of verb 'to install' spreading like wildfire - imho!)
When should I start noticing any improvements??? *JOKE*
PS. IDK why, but currently I can buy it locally, delivered, for only 42euro/Gallon! Signature synthetic. Stocking up...

Oh wow. My boi loves it. Subtle but noticeable improvement to noise levels, acceleration, mileage.
I think amsoil 0w20 signature is The best oil for LS4.
I'm sold.
PS. As always, only -38010 original filters for me. Can't find that trd/royalpurple/whatever performance one, if I do - I will try it too.

They are some of the best for sure, I use their stuff in my truck/engine was designed for their Z-rod oil.
Everything else is Mobile1 ESPx3 or whatever 0w-20 is on sale for the Lexus/Toyota

I've been trying out different oil just to compare since I got this car, Mobil1 EP/Pennsoil ultra/Amsoil signature and now Royal P.
I was just trying to see if any seemed to make a difference that was noticeable to me...nothing scientific no testing etc. I've decided to just use Amsoil from now on mainly because they ship to my door for free, I should say the shipping is included in the price of the product.

Show must go on!
So, I'm succumbing to peer pressure, ads, youtubers and fancy packaging:
Decided that my next oil change going to be Amsoil 0W-20 synthetic.
Previously my '11 AWD only seen LGMO/Exxon 0W-20 XS formula oil and OCI is every 6000km (well, before me it was low grade 5W-40 which ruined both heads and I replaced those. since then - LGMO only).
My engine does not consume a drop of oil and is currently at about 80k miles on odo.
Amsoil and most other US oils are not readily available in our parts, but I was quite pleased that Amsoil was in stock locally and not much pricier than LGMO (guilty, getting that at laughable 10usd per 1L in drums).
What can I expect? If anything? That's a pure experiment for me, please understand the hesitation. I have no engine problems at this moment and it pulls like a mother trucker.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but there were comments about cam chain wear I wanted to address. I recently replaced all the timing pieces in my 2UR-GSE IS F. Cam chains, slippers, tensioners, water pump, alternator, installed catted PPE headers...anyway, there seemed to be a belief I would find the cam chains worn beyond limits at 213k miles. I expected they would be as well, since there was another IS F owner who fixed this same problem at 120k miles and stated his chains were worn beyond limits. I figured mine would be on their last legs, especially with the track weekends and very long OCIs I used initially with this engine.
You need 147 N (15 kgf, 33 lbf) force on the chain, and measure it in at least 3 places to the inside of the rollers across 16 links. Maximum chain elongation is 136.9 mm (5.39 in.) for the number 1 (long) chain and 137.6 mm (5.42 in.) for the number 2 (short) chain. All four of my chains were well within specification even at 213k miles. I was shocked. In fact, to solve the issue I had, all I really needed to do was replace one tensioner with the redesigned part and I'd've been just fine. To be fair, I had all new parts so I replaced everything just because getting the timing cover off isn't a small job and I really want another 250k out of this engine, so all new parts were installed, and the start up noise I had for years is gone. TBH, I doubt I could hear it now with the new exhaust I have. It's very loud on start up (while the ECM is dumping fuel into the cats to get them lit) and that was when it was most noticeable.

Well, prior to using Mobil1 I was using Pennzoil pretty exclusively for three years because it always seemed to test well in UOA’s I read online. I used it in two different vehicles for 5,000 mile intervals. Seemed fine. Never did an analysis on it, and I used Pennzoil Platinum, not the more expensive/better Pennzoil Ultra. I’d like to try the Ultra, and Pennzoil is running their rebates again.
But I did run a used oil analysis on the Mobil1 EP 0W20 and the results were phenomenal. My first ever 10,000 mile intervals. Wear metals were only 5ppm in iron. 2 ppm aluminum. TBN was 3.7...those are numbers that you might see on a 5,000 interval (if you’re lucky), not a 10,000 interval. I was impressed but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the oil is doing this^^^. It more likely means that my engine is in excellent running order (and I have an easy commute/highway commute). Which I do.
But the gas to liquid base stocks produced by Pennzoil are being sold to other oil companies right now because the PAO base stocks are harder to come by right now, and more expensive (From what I’ve read). And supposedly the gas to liquid base stock is considered a group lll plus...something that might compete more favorably with the group lV base stocks. But who knows? And does it really matter? Not if you’re running a 5,000 mile interval...you could put Honey Nut Cheerios in there for 5,000 miles and everything would probably be good enough.

maybe the Mobil1 tested great because engine is prestine
due to using Pennzoil regularly and for so long !!!!!
imho .. try to get Pennzoil ULTRA it's a much better oil
... Mobil1 unfortunately dropped the PAO % drastically
but for 5k oci as u mentioned ts all good
