im stating fact
the pirellis you are a fan boy of, and an enthusiast of the p7's is a good tire.
its not a Michelin never will.
its a good tire, but Michelin makes the best tires and has been for last twenty years.
like you always say the pirellis will ride softer, but hence will not last as long as michelins, nor handle as well, nor be as good in bad weather.
the banter is cute, you have been preaching the pirellis for years, I always respect your opinion, but its just opinion
Having had Pirellis years ago doesnt give you insight into these specific tires. Like I have said, I have had all the tires you are talking about. Sure, my opinion is just an opinion but its based off of first hand experience, which yours is not. There's an old saying "A man with experience is not at the mercy of one with an opinion". I've gotten 40k miles or so out of the Pirellis, which is similar to what I got with Michelins on the same car. I've driven this exact car in both AWD and RWD on these exact tires in all kinds of weather...but what do I know?!

I find it funny you call me a fanboy when you're the one preaching "Michelin makes the best tires and no other tire can be a Michelin" even extremely highly rated tires you've never had...which is fanboy playbook 101 lol. Michelin makes some very good tires, but they make some lousy tires too. Same is true of all manufacturers. For instance I have a set of Michelin Primacy MXM4s on my S560 with 16k miles on them and plenty of tread left, but my highway drive home in the rain last night was scary, lots of hydroplaning. So, I'm going to replace them here shortly. Hardly an "incredible" performance...

It depends on what the goal is.

Different brands have different strong points, Michelin generally are the kings of performance, Continental offers very quiet tires and a huge selection plus some very good performance tires, Pirelli sometimes makes a killer performance tire and they have some outstanding ones, Goodyear has QC issues but make some really good dry performance tires and respectable all seasons for great price/performance ratios.

Most all brands have something great in the lineup, BFG makes killer off road stuff etc....some brands selling point is the selling price. All depends on what you want

EDIT: As above, the MXMs are a fine example of an overhyped tire that IMO sucked badly enough for me to ditch 3/4 tread ones for other options

My advice about tires is to look less at the brand, and more at the performance of the specific tire. I would never carpet recommend one brand tire over the other, all brands have great, good, and crappy tires.

Yep. 100% agree, it's like picking a car. Get the option that gives you what you want.

And your choice of tires will tailor the car somewhat to what you want it to be. UHP tires will firm it up and make it a little more direct and dynamic while GT tires will give it that aloof, numb soft feel.

The only complaint i had about my P7 cinturatos is that even with regular rotation ever oil change, the lasted 30k and weren't just bald, but at the belts. I am currently running Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring's because I had that set of brand new (nearly) tires on the stock wheels when I got new wheels with the P7's.

I put the P7's on at 85k miles. At 113k miles, they were no longer passing state inspection. (less than 1/32" tread). So i had the Coopers swapped over. I am not really a fan, but will run 'em till they're bald or too noisy. I had one with a bad belt at 4000 miles of use, and replaced it with an identical tire. They are quiet for now, but most new tires are. Will probably try either another Pirelli or see if something else tickles my fancy, maybe a Toyo touring tire.

Mine were still 5-6 32nds after 45k miles.

thanks for the info, it emphasizes my point the extra 20 to 40 dollars a tire and the longevity of the Michelin tire plus it rides well as it ages it offsets the cost difference..
and I would bank that mpg is better same car, pirellii p7 vs Michelin primacy tire, guarantee the Michelin eeks out the Pirelli mpg...

bottom line everyone has an opinion and the Pirelli is a good tire, like I said for four years with the Pirelli fans its not a Michelin and never will be plus its a overseas owned company and not something I particularly want to participate in, but a French company w manufacturing plants here in the us I don't have an issue with

What kind of mileage are you seeing out of these?

for all that care

Michelin is the world's largest manufacturer of tires for vehicles from bicycles to the space shuttle. The French company purchased the American firm Uniroyal-Goodrich company in 1989. In the United States, it manufactures tires in Alabama, North and South Carolina and Arkansas.

Issue is I have had both the tires on the same car, and the Michelin tire rides notably harder and are notably louder. The decision to choose the Pirellis is not about cost, its about wanting the softest quietest tire for the car. I would still choose these Pirellis even if they cost more than the Michelin Primacy tires.

And Pirelli makes tires in California, Tennessee and Georgia.

Michelin and Pirelli are both foreign companies that manufacture some tires in the US, but none of the tires we are discussing are made in the US.

This is the latest TireRacl test of the P7 II tire, and you can see when compared in this case to the Michelin Cross Climate II there is a considerable difference in ride and noise:

There is no direct comparison between the Primacy Tour A/S and the P7 Plus II but this compares the Tour A/S to the Bridgestone Quiet Track, which were beaten by the Pirellis so you can extrapolate:

If Steve says the P7s are quieter and ride better on a 460 I have no reason to doubt him, he had both on the same car and has no reason to defend any brand nor should any of us.

I happen to use Michelin since they meet my performance goals, however other tires can and do beat them in various areas or end goals. If you prioritize NVH then they won't do as well as others.
